Hello, I am Dr. Patricia Profit. I find it rewarding helping others learn to develop and maintain healthy relationships, overcome negative thoughts, become spiritually mature and effectively manage their lives. I am a Christian and I believe that a spiritual perspective is important in counseling and I am open to exploring any religious or spiritual concerns you might have. I reinforce to you that you matter and I come alongside you as we navigate through your situation.
During the early phase of counseling (the first few sessions generally), I will encourage you to share information with me that will help me understand you and that will help me know more about the nature and history of the concerns that brought you to counseling. As such, I may inquire about a number of aspects of your life (e.g., work, family, church, social relationships, health, and spirituality). I also may refer you to another professional (a medical doctor, for example) to help me gain more insight into your concerns or to take one or more psychological tests. This background information will help to clarify your needs and treatment options.
A therapeutic relationship with my clients is essential. Coming alongside the client to help them is my passion.
I specialize in counseling to males and females (adolescents age 14-adults). I also work with postpartum moms. I am happy to refer clients who have specific needs regarding sexual orientation or gender identity, that have neurodevelopmental disorders, schizophrenia or other psychotic disorders to someone well-trained in these areas and who will provide an excellent client experience.
Dr. Patricia Profit offers therapy covered by Kaiser Permanente - Medicaid and UnitedHealthcare/Optum - Medicaid in Virginia.
I am a Christian counselor and desire to come along side you and help you become spiritually mature and help you to effectively manage your life.
I’ve been using CBT in my practice for seven years. It’s helped dozens of clients challenge reoccurring thoughts and manage their anxiety. With CBT you first have a thoughts, which produces a feeling, which causes a behavior.
I am trained in DBT to help change behavioral, emotional, thinking and interpersonal patterns associated with problems in living.
