Hi! I'm a Licensed Clinical Social Worker based in Southern California. I received my Masters degree in Social Work from the University of Southern California and have been practicing therapy for the last 7 years. Before becoming a therapist, I spent an additional 5 years working with survivors of trauma. I enjoy working with children, adolescents, and adults who are struggling to manage anxiety and trauma experiences.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

In our first session together, we'll have an opportunity to talk about what's bringing you to therapy at this time in your life, as well as any goals you want to achieve in treatment. If you're not sure, that's okay! I value collaboration and will work with you to figure out a plan to address your concerns. I may ask some additional questions to get to know your needs better, and you'll have an opportunity to ask any professional questions about me. If you feel that we aren't a good fit after we talk, that's okay too! You deserve to work with a therapist you feel comfortable with. Please let me know and I'd be happy to guide you in finding another provider.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

Having worked with youth and families for my whole career, I've developed a gift for connecting with young people to make therapy both fun and a valuable learning tool. I understand the challenges with processing stress and trauma, and know the right balance between taking things slow and pushing my clients to meet their goals.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

I love working with children and adolescents, as well as those who identify within the LGBTQ+ community. Youth and young adulthood are times of rapid change, sometimes moving faster than we have the tools to cope with it. I have a wealth of experience helping young people and their families learn the tools needed to manage the stress of growing up in a world overrun by stressors. For those who have been through traumatic experiences, the stress of life can feel even more insurmountable and I enjoy being able to teach my clients how to live beyond their trauma.

I’ve had my share of therapy sessions in the passed. Not knocking any of those, but Marissa was so warm, inviting and open minded. Intelligent and non judgmental. One of the most passionate, pleasant & wonderful persons I’ve talked to. Period.

My treatment methods

Eclectic

I believe that every person has a unique set of strengths and experiences that don't fit a one-size fits all treatment approach. I pull from various evidenced-based practices and theories to best address the concerns my clients come to me for. While I have extensive experience with Trauma-focused interventions, I will also utilize aspects of CBT, attachment theory, psychodynamic, family systems, and gender-affirming approaches to help others manage their depression, anxiety, PTSD, and/or other mental conditions.

Trauma-Focused CBT

I have been a certified TF-CBT therapist for the last 5 years, and have extensive experience working with survivors of abuse, domestic violence, and childhood trauma.
