I have been privileged being a therapist for over 40 years. I have worked as a probation officer, child protection worker and directer of various treatment programs. I have also been in therapy which gives me a perspective of the the value of therapy as both a client and therapist. I enjoy working with folks the the recovery community, first responders and those who had traumatic childhoods. I respect the courage it takes to ask for help. I treat your courage with honor and dignity.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

The first session we will talk about what you are looking for from therapy. What are your past experiences in therapy? Are you looking for what some call a "tune-up" I am solution focused and believe a lot can be accomplished in a few sessions. More complex issues will require more sessions and commitment. We can determine this during our first session.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

I use a lot of humor in my therapy. I take my work seriously but not myself. I have had my struggles in life and when appropriate will share them. I am the last person who sits in an "Ivory tower". God has been good to me and I am blessed to do what I feel is helping others. I have worked with veterans with severe PTSD. I work with first responders and share tears as they describe pulling dead children out of cars. I hear stories of inmate killings from my correctional officers. I have been treating trauma before EMDR was invented. I guess the bottom line is I care about my clients. You can't fake sincerity and wisdom.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

If you are looking for a therapist who is direct and and gives feedback I am your guy. With many years of experience I am able to work with a variety of presenting issues. You will never be judged and will be treated with respect. My clients don't always like the feedback but later appreciate hearing the truth. When we can see what we need to change and that it is possible, that is the exciting part of therapy. Actually, thats why I am still doing what I do. I am grateful that we are capable of change and in many cases unbelievable.

My treatment methods

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

Help client identify what they want to work on. Help them examine their thoughts without judgement and criticism. Teach clients to focus on being positive and in the present. I also work within a family systems approach so I would explore where was the origin of the negative thinking.

Christian Counseling

As a Christian I provide faith-based therapy for those that request same. I also respect those who claim no faith and/or have had a negative experience with religion.
