Basheer Shabazz
It is a pleasure to meet you. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker(LCSW), with a strong clinical background supporting individuals, couples and families through complex emotional, trauma and behavioral challenges. I have a Masters of Social Work from Kean University, and my training in clinical therapy has equipped me with evidence-based approaches to treatment. I special in treating co-occurring disorders, trauma, anxiety, depression, PTSD, mood disorders, relationship issues and life transitions.
First session
Clients can expect to feel welcomed, supported and heard during their first session. My goal is to create a safe, nonjudgmental space where clients can share at your own pace. I will use open in questions to learn more about my client symptoms, stressors and patterns they have been experiencing. This session is more about information gathering, and to answer any questions. The client has about the process of therapy.
Strengths
My approaches is to meet a person where they are at cognitively and emotionally. I work from a person strength, not their deficit. I use a client-centered approach, along with CBT, combined with motivational interviewing skills. My active listening skills, empathetic ear assist me in validating the specific needs of my clients.
Ideal clients
I’m looking to work with people who want to improve their life circumstances, improve their mental, emotional state and those who want to find joy in their everyday lives. My clients generally want to learn more about themselves, find healthy ways of coping with stresses, improve decision-making skills, create life-style balance and streamline their problem-solving skills. My goal is to work with people who want to improve their circumstances.
