Alexa Burley
Hi there, I'm Alexa, I am a psychiatric nurse practitioner who offers therapeutic interventions with medication management. Are you looking for a mental health provider that listens and works "with you" instead of "at you"? True mental health stability comes from a provider who will listen and work with clients collaboratively to treat their struggles in an individualized way. Mental health treatment is not "cookie-cutter" and requires therapeutic interactions giving individuals what they need when they need it.
Mental health treatment is not "cookie-cutter" and requires therapeutic interactions giving individuals what they need when they need it.
I provide both medication management and meaningful therapeutic interactions with you. I respect your input and partner with you to work towards your wellness goals. I provide both medication treatment and management coupled with therapy to help you be the "best you", you can be. Whether your condition is long-term, chronically severe, or more of a current situation, I can help. Don't let past negative interactions with others dictate the ability for you to find someone who cares. We will work through this together.
First session
Our first session will be an interview; a complete history of your past and present situation. It's best if you are able to give me thorough information at this session, so be ready! I am likely to ask you to get lab work or other testing for the baseline of your health. I may provide brief counseling or treatment at the first session depending on the severity of your symptoms. Most times, I will set a second appointment within two weeks after you were able to complete lab work and I can rule out the potential of somatic issues contributing to your symptoms. Then treatment begins, for some it will be completely therapeutic, and for others it will be a combination of therapy and medication management. Some patients will see me with a current therapist they are working with, that's fine too. I believe in collaboration with other providers so I can do the best for you I am able. Look forward to meeting you. *Please note:* - To ensure a good fit, I want patients to know that I rarely prescribe controlled substances (including Xanax, Lorazepam, Adderall, or Vyvanse) and instead focus on alternative, evidence-based treatment options. -I do not treat patients who are currently using marijuana.
Strengths
My biggest strength is the ability to listen and treat my patients "where they are". Meaning, each plan is individualized and focused on the needs of my patients on each visit. The importance of building healthy relationships with clients and collaboratively working with them to develop a realistic plan of care is my top priority.
Ideal clients
Bipolar Disorder, Major Depression, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Schizophrenia, Generalized Anxiety Disorder and Prolonged Grief Disorder.
Treatment methods
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I integrate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) into my practice to help patients identify and reframe negative thought patterns that contribute to distressing emotions and behaviors. By combining CBT techniques with medication management when appropriate, I empower patients to develop healthier coping strategies and improve their overall mental well-being.
Dialectical Behavior (DBT)
I incorporate Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) to help patients build emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness skills. By using DBT techniques alongside medication management when needed, I support patients in developing healthier coping mechanisms and improving their overall emotional resilience.
