Nathalie Anyakpor
I’m a warm and collaborative therapist who works with adults navigating burnout, anxiety, depression, trauma, and ADHD. Many of my clients are high-functioning professionals who feel overwhelmed behind the scenes — managing careers, family expectations, and invisible stress.
Many of my clients are high-functioning professionals who feel overwhelmed behind the scenes — managing careers, family expectations, and invisible stress.
I integrate insight-oriented work with practical skill-building so you can better understand your patterns while also developing tools that improve daily functioning, emotional regulation, and self-trust. My goal is to help you feel more grounded, capable, and aligned in your life — not just coping, but actually well.
First session
Our first session is a space for you to slow down and feel heard. We’ll discuss what’s bringing you to therapy, your history, and what you’d like to feel different in your life. I’ll ask thoughtful questions to understand patterns, stressors, and strengths — not to interrogate you, but to build a clear roadmap together. By the end of our first meeting, you’ll have a sense of how I work, initial areas of focus, and next steps. My goal is for you to leave feeling understood and hopeful about the direction we’re taking.
Strengths
One of my greatest strengths as a therapist is my ability to balance warmth with structure. Clients often share that they feel deeply understood in our work together, while also appreciating the clarity and direction I provide. I don’t believe therapy should feel vague or aimless — I help you gain insight into the “why” behind your patterns while also equipping you with practical tools to create change. I work especially well with high-functioning adults experiencing burnout, anxiety, depression, trauma, or ADHD. Because I understand the internal pressure many driven individuals place on themselves, I’m able to help clients unpack perfectionism, people-pleasing, avoidance, and chronic self-criticism in a way that feels compassionate rather than shaming. As a woman of color practicing from a culturally responsive and LGBTQ+ affirming lens, I am attuned to how identity, systemic stress, family expectations, and generational patterns shape mental health. Clients don’t have to filter or minimize their experiences in our work together. My approach is collaborative, thoughtful, and results-oriented. I aim to help clients not only feel better emotionally, but function better in their daily lives — with stronger boundaries, improved focus, emotional regulation, and a clearer sense of self.
Ideal clients
You may be the person others rely on — competent, responsible, and high-achieving — yet privately exhausted. You might struggle with overthinking, procrastination, people-pleasing, or feeling like you’re always behind despite working hard. Some of my clients are navigating ADHD, trauma histories, or cultural and family pressures that make it difficult to rest or set boundaries. You’re likely insightful and motivated, but stuck in patterns that no longer serve you. You want more than just venting — you want clarity, emotional stability, better focus, and practical tools that help you function at a high level without burning out. I work especially well with adults who value growth, are open to self-reflection, and want both deeper understanding and concrete strategies.
Origin story
I was drawn to becoming a therapist because I’ve always been interested in understanding people beyond what they show on the surface. I wanted to understand how our experiences, relationships, and life circumstances shape the way we see ourselves and navigate the world. I’ve always believed that people’s struggles make more sense when we take the time to understand their stories rather than judge them by their behaviors or circumstances. What solidified this path for me was recognizing how meaningful it can be to have someone who listens without judgment and helps you make sense of what you’re experiencing. So many people spend years feeling misunderstood, carrying responsibilities, or trying to manage everything on their own. I wanted to create a space where people could feel heard, gain insight into their patterns, and develop practical tools to navigate life differently. As a therapist, I value the balance between compassion and growth. I believe therapy should be a place where you can show up as you are, explore difficult emotions, and feel supported while also working toward meaningful change. I’m passionate about helping clients better understand themselves, strengthen their relationships, build healthier coping strategies, and recognize that they have more options than they may realize. Ultimately, I chose this profession because I believe people deserve to feel understood, empowered, and capable of creating a life that feels more aligned with who they want to be.
Ongoing work together
Our work together will be guided by your needs, goals, and experiences as they evolve over time. In early sessions, we'll focus on understanding what brings you to therapy, exploring relevant experiences and patterns, and identifying what you would like to work toward. Together, we'll develop an approach that feels appropriate for you, drawing on reflection, practical coping strategies, and exploration of thoughts, emotions, and relationships as needed. As we continue working together, sessions will build on previous conversations and focus on what is happening in your life, what you've been noticing between sessions, and what may need further attention. We'll revisit your goals periodically and adjust our approach based on your experiences, priorities, and feedback. Progress may look different for everyone. You might begin to recognize patterns more clearly, respond to difficult emotions differently, communicate your needs more effectively, or feel more confident navigating challenging situations. We'll use your own observations and reflections to help us understand what is changing and where additional support may be helpful. My goal is to provide a consistent, collaborative space where you can explore challenges at your own pace, build on your strengths, and work toward changes that feel meaningful to you. Therapy is a process, and we'll approach it together with curiosity, flexibility, and respect for your individual journey.
Treatment methods
Psychodynamic
My approach is warm and insight-oriented. I help clients explore how past experiences, family dynamics, and attachment patterns may be influencing current struggles with burnout, anxiety, depression, or trauma. Together, we identify recurring themes and emotional patterns so you can better understand yourself and respond differently. Insight is used as a foundation for meaningful and lasting change.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
In addition to deeper insight work, I incorporate CBT to help clients build practical skills. We identify unhelpful thought patterns, self-criticism, and avoidance cycles that often fuel anxiety, depression, and burnout. I work collaboratively with you to develop tools that improve focus, emotional regulation, and daily functioning — especially for adults navigating ADHD or high-demand lifestyles. Sessions are structured but supportive, with clear goals and real-world application.
Culturally Sensitive Therapy
As a woman of color, I practice through a culturally responsive and affirming lens. I understand how identity, systemic stressors, family expectations, and lived experiences can impact mental health. I create a space where clients — including LGBTQ+ individuals and professionals managing burnout — feel safe, respected, and not judged. You won’t need to minimize or over-explain your experiences here.
Supportive
I use supportive therapy to help clients navigate stress, difficult emotions, and life challenges in a space where they feel heard and understood. My approach includes active listening, validation, reflection, encouragement, and collaborative problem-solving. I work with clients to identify existing strengths, explore coping strategies, and recognize patterns that may be contributing to their current difficulties. I aim to provide a supportive, nonjudgmental environment where clients can process their experiences at their own pace while building on the resources they already have.
Person-centered (Rogerian)
I use a person-centered approach by prioritizing each client's individual experiences, values, needs, and goals. I strive to create a therapeutic relationship grounded in empathy, authenticity, and respect, where clients feel comfortable exploring their thoughts and emotions without fear of judgment. Rather than assuming I know what is best for someone, I collaborate with clients to help them develop self-awareness, explore their options, and identify meaningful steps toward change. I believe clients deserve to feel heard and respected as active participants in their care.
