It has been my privilege to be working as a mental health therapist for over 25 years. My guiding principal remains to lead with compassion, understanding, respect and starting where the client identifies. I realize that therapy is about goodness of fit with the therapist. I have been honored to work with diverse clients, assisting them in achieving goals related to healthier coping skills and improved relationships with themselves and others. Over the past decade I have focused on working with motivated clients addressing primarily trauma, anxiety and mood disorders as well as with adolescents struggling with their journey to adulthood. I believe my role is to nurture and guide each persons' innate healing process, helping to achieve greater peace and connection to themselves and others. The ultimate goal is to assist clients in moving past the need for therapy. I have advanced training in EMDR, and various ego state therapy techniques to address PTSD and complex trauma. I also incorporate mindfulness, EFT, and breathe work focusing on calming the nervous system. My work is primarily rooted in trauma, relational, interpersonal neurology and polyvagal theory. I believe and nurture the mind/body/spirit connection.
Clients I work with should expect to feel both heard and seen as well as respected. Treatment goals are collaboratively established, and I ensure that my interventions are achieving the results my client is seeking. I am very upfront and dynamic in session, a client should expect to receive feedback from me. I also believe in giving homework or things to focus on in between session as experience has taught me that this facilitates the process.
My strengths are forming a positive therapeutic relationship and ensuring that the clients I work with felt heard and seen. I work in a collaborative fashion, together we will make choices around treatment interventions and what is working best for any client.
I have expertise in working with trauma both single incident and more complex trauma, anxiety, depression, mood disorders, as well as adolescents
EMDR certified, used in conjunction with mindfulness techniques, and parts work, Developmental Needs Meeting Strategy to work with both trauma and attachment wounding.
Trauma informed care principals are infused into all aspects of treatement. These include trustworthiness, transparency, mutual collaboration, building supports, ensuring all aspects of the person are taken into consideration of treatment, and
Culture in its many facets is a crucial aspect to any individual, with the client being the authority on how aspects of culture impact their lives. By practicing cultural humility, I am curious about a client's culture, how it has impacted who they are and how they view the world, and to ensure that all cultural is respected.
mindfulness is an important part of therapy to increase insight and awareness, to promote using techniques outside of session, and to assist in the changing of behavior.
I ensure that I am providing education on treatment modalities, symptoms, and the rational for treatment planning.
