Hello. I am a licensed clinical social worker with over 30 years of experience in the field of mental health. I graduated from the University of Maryland School of Social Work with a clinical concentration and mental health specialization. I have worked in a variety of settings including community mental health clinics, HIV care, adult and pediatric hospice, and trauma services. I have experience in dealing with depression, anxiety, PTSD, bipolar disorder, eating disorders and life transitions and have worked with adult men and women in the area of childhood sexual abuse, sexual assault, and intimate partner violence.
Clients can expect a brief introduction and then questions as to what brings you to therapy. We will go as far as you feel comfortable in identifying your needs and goals. I will answer any questions you might have, and we can assess if we are a good fit to work together.
I am very empathic and dedicated to understanding your needs and doing my very best to ensure that you receive the best care possible.
It is important to me to provide a safe and welcoming space for all clients to discuss their fears and challenges and to tailor my therapeutic skills to your needs. I use cognitive behavioral therapy and psychodynamic therapy in a trauma-informed care setting.
I have found that CBT helps people identify and challenge thoughts and feelings which are not helpful and this can lead to changed behaviors.
Often people have unconscious processes from the past that influence their present behavior. This approach helps people understand and become aware of past events so they can find new ways to respond to present events.
