Hello! My name is Sophia, and I am a Bilingual (Spanish) Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). I specialize in providing trauma-informed care to individuals who have been victims or witnesses of crime, including but not limited to sexual and physical assault. I also work closely with surviving family members of those affected by violence. My approach focuses on creating a safe, supportive space for healing, helping you process your experiences and regain a sense of control and empowerment. Whether you prefer therapy in English or Spanish, I’m here to support you on your journey to recovery.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In your first session with me, you can expect a warm, welcoming, and non-judgmental environment where we’ll begin building trust and understanding. We'll discuss what brought you to therapy, explore your goals, and talk about any concerns or questions you may have. This session is about getting to know each other and ensuring you feel comfortable. I’ll also explain my trauma-informed approach, focusing on your safety and emotional well-being. Together, we'll create a plan tailored to your needs, so you feel supported as we begin your healing journey.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

As a therapist, my greatest strengths lie in my empathy, personality, cultural sensitivity, and trauma-informed approach. Being bilingual allows me to offer therapy in both English and Spanish, making my services more accessible to a diverse range of clients. I create a safe, non-judgmental space where clients feel heard and supported while also keeping it real—offering honest guidance to help you navigate life’s challenges. With my experience working with survivors of trauma and crime, I provide compassionate care that acknowledges the complexities of each individual’s experience, helping them heal and regain a sense of control and resilience.

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

I love working with people who are ready to improve their lives and understand that it may feel harder before things get better.

My treatment methods

Trauma Informed Care

Trauma-informed therapy is an approach that recognizes the profound impact trauma can have on a person's emotional, physical, and mental well-being. It focuses on creating a safe and supportive environment, empowering clients to regain control of their lives. In my practice, I integrate trauma-informed care by being sensitive to the potential triggers and emotional responses linked to past trauma, ensuring a non-judgmental space for healing. I use techniques that prioritize safety, trust, and collaboration while helping clients understand and process their experiences so they can build resilience and move forward at their own pace.

Narrative

Narrative Exposure Therapy (NET) is a structured, short-term intervention designed to help individuals who have experienced complex trauma or multiple traumatic events, such as survivors of violence. In NET, we work together to construct a detailed, chronological narrative of your life, focusing on both positive and traumatic experiences. By revisiting and contextualizing these events, you are able to make sense of overwhelming memories, reduce the emotional impact of trauma, and integrate these experiences into a cohesive life story. In my practice, I use NET to create a safe, supportive environment where we explore your personal history at your own pace, empowering you to reclaim control over your narrative and promote healing.

EMDR

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a therapeutic approach that helps individuals process and heal from traumatic experiences. By using guided eye movements or other bilateral stimulation, EMDR allows the brain to reprocess distressing memories, reducing their emotional intensity and impact. In my therapy practice, I use EMDR to help clients work through trauma, anxiety, and other emotional challenges by targeting the root causes of their distress. This gentle, structured method fosters healing by transforming painful memories and restoring emotional balance, often leading to lasting relief and personal growth.
