Are you experiencing difficulty moving forward with life after trauma, loss or unanticipated setbacks in life? Do anxiety and worry prevent you from fully engaging and living the life you want to live? Hello my name is Kristin and I enjoy helping survivors of trauma and loss and those struggling with anxiety, depression and adjustment disorders heal from past experiences and develop confidence and courage to navigate life's challenges. Although the process looks different for everyone, I strive to help clients understand and empower themselves through identifying and building upon personal strengths, connecting to values, understanding connections between past experiences and current challenges and providing skills and support to process difficult emotions and confront triggers and fears as they emerge in everyday life. I treat individuals of all ages with a variety of backgrounds and experiences. However, I especially enjoy working with children and adolescents who are struggling with anxiety and worry as well as those who experienced the loss of a loved one or pet. I believe that therapy is an adventure that should be playful, engaging and directly relatable. I welcome humor and sarcasm and particularly love incorporating client's personal interests and popular culture into sessions. I often bring my two adorable chihuahuas, Dusty and Attila, into virtual sessions when desired and feasible. I believe that the telehealth platform provides an incredible opportunity to connect and work together in a relaxed setting. I work best with clients who desire and embrace this non-traditional modality and strive to ask questions, challenge assumptions and apply insights gleaned or skills taught in therapy to situations

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

The goal of the first session is to get to know you and your needs to determine if we are a good fit. I will ask questions to get to know you and I will respond to any questions you have about treatment. I will offer my impressions of what would be helpful and discuss my approach to therapy sessions.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

I believe that my biggest strengths is my desire and commitment to delivering effective and meaningful therapy. To make this happen, I spent a significant amount of time equipping clients with information about their symptoms and teaching them how to get the most out of their therapy experience.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

Children, adolescents, young adults usually with some element of grief, trauma or anxiety. I view myself as a coach or guide, so I work best with clients who are motivated to apply concepts outside of sessions.

First therapy session ever and I am very excited that I got Kristin to help me through this process. I came away from my first session with advice on dealing with an immediate issue as well as a sense of being truly heard and empowered to move forward with my growth. Couldn’t be happier

I've done a lot of therapy with a lot of different providers over many years and she just wasn't for me. It could partially be on me, but I don't believe she was hands-on enough, provided any unique insights, or left me with any homework or anything to chew on. Our sessions felt like they were just time for me to yap freely and not dig deeper into my grief, inattention difficulties, or traumas. Not a great fit for me.

My treatment methods

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

We will work together to identify connect actions with personal values and develop strategies to work through uncomfortable feelings and change how we view and respond to critical or negative thoughts which keep you stuck. We will also identify and engage in "exposure" activities to build confidence and courage with facing fears and making changes in your life

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

We will explore how thoughts, feelings and actions are all connected and learn how to use cognitive strategies such as asking questions and reflecting on experiences to recognize and challenge unhelpful thoughts, assumptions and patterns of thinking

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

We will learn how to recognize and validate our emotions and thoughts and expand our ability to be mindful work through difficult emotions, build acceptance of stressors outside our control and communicate our needs and concerns effectively to others

Internal Family Systems (IFS)

We will identify and create space to explore different aspects or "parts" of ourselves as a way of releasing trauma, guilt and shame and reducing anxiety and fear.

Grief Therapy

We will learn about the grieving process and establish a carefully curated repertoire of strategies to help you navigate grief to promote healing and improve functioning. We will also explore how the experience of the loss impacts perceptions of self and others and responsibilities and roles and develop strategies to honor and manage feelings that emerge in response to reminders of loss.
