I received my Bachelors degree in Government & Politics, then worked as a mobile dog groomer for many years and then finally got my Masters degree in Pastoral Counseling which just means I am a regular counselor, but see value in a client's religious/spiritual faith, if they have one, in bringing more tools to the table in order to help them work on issues they have. However, I have worked with plenty of clients who are atheist, searching or do not wish to bring their religion/spirituality into the counseling realm.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

During the initial session, I tell the client a little about myself. Then I have standard questions that I ask all clients and finally, I 'throw the ball in the client's court' to express whatever they want to express, including anything they think will help inform me as to their history and current issues. Then it's kind of organic. I start asking clients questions and in the first session, it's possible that we will talking about what observations and thoughts the client and/or I have to say on a matter. I might even give-out some 'suggested homework' depending on what I learn.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

I seem to usually be able to, quickly connect with clients thus dispelling anxiety they may initially have in coming to psychotherapy because I'm fairly informal including adding a little humor as we go, yet I keep the professionalism. I don't pretend that I'm perfect and have everything figured-out, but I have done a great deal of work on myself, meaning I have 'walked the walk'. I'm very open about my past and use my own past experiences in therapy when clinically useful. I call it being 'invulnerably vulnerable'. I would say that my therapy style is often fairly quick due to its solution-focused nature.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

I am best positioned to help individuals over the age of 12 years. Though I have worked with a wide variety of clients, I would say that I have worked with clients with depression, anxiety and/or ADD/ADHD more than other issues. I am solution-focused as well as a CBT therapist. On, the whole, I would say that my therapy style is faster rather than slower due to my handing-out what I call, 'suggested homework'. I call it 'suggested' because I do not get upset if clients do not do the homework because I get it. Psychotherapy homework is sometimes not the highest priority for the client during the timeframe since our last session.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I have successfully used CBT a great deal through the years in order to fix my own dysfunctional thinking and behaving. I have seen the same countless times with clients. Thoughts lead to emotions which lead to thinking and behaving. You change the thinking and the changes cascade down to one's thinking and behaving.
