Hello! I'm a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) based in Virginia. I received my Masters degree from the University of Virginia (Counselor Education) and have been practicing for 22 years. I help individuals struggling with anxiety and depression, to find coping strategies that work for them and help them to reduce stress. The overall goal is for the individual to become the best version of themselves.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session together, we'll start with brief introductions to get to know one another, then discuss the specific challenges you're facing. This will help us to begin to create a plan together for us to work through in follow-up sessions.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

Having worked with a diverse group of clients for the past 22 years, I've developed and used many coping strategies that will be key to helping you (a) identify the root cause of your challenges and (b) create a tailored plan that leads to measurable progress.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Description: I’ve been using CBT in my work with clients, for the past 22 years. It’s helped dozens of clients challenge reoccurring thoughts and manage their anxiety. We’ll use CBT to recognize how your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors influence each other. We’ll then use that knowledge to change your thinking patterns, which will help you lead a less anxious and stressed life.

Psychoeducation

Psychoeducation is a type of psychotherapy that teaches clients and their families about mental illness. It can be used in clinical and community settings. The goals of psychoeducation include: Basic knowledge: Ensuring patients and their families have basic knowledge and competence about the illness Insight: Providing insight into the illness Relapse prevention: Promoting relapse prevention Crisis management: Engaging in crisis management Suicide prevention: Engaging in suicide prevention Coping strategies: Developing coping strategies and problem-solving skills Empowerment: Empowering the client to make their own decisions about how to move forward.

Grief Therapy

Techniques used in grief counseling can include: Guiding you to talk about the loss, who the person was to you, and the circumstances surrounding the death. Asking you to describe your emotions and feelings. Building coping strategies to deal with tough days like holidays, anniversaries, or birthdays. Grief therapy may also be used in the death of a pet, for an individual experiencing a divorce, or even the ending of a friendship.

Solution Focused Brief Treatment

Solution-focused brief therapy (SFBT) is a strength-based and evidence-based intervention that helps clients focus on personal strengths, identify exceptions to problems, and highlight small successes (Berg, 1994; Gonzalez Suitt et al., 2016; Schmit et al., 2016).

Strength-Based

A strength-based approach is a way of working that focuses on people's strengths, knowledge, and abilities instead of their weaknesses or deficits. It recognizes that people are resilient and capable of growth and change. I prefer to use this method with all clients.
