Well, hello there! I am so happy you’re here! My name is Aliya, and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with over 15 years of experience. I specialize in supporting women, girls and members from the LGBTQIA+ community who are high achieving creatives and public-facing professionals, and are struggling with anxiety, compulsive sexual behaviors and unhealthy relationship patterns. During challenging times, our careers can begin to intersect with high visibility stress, performance pressure, relationship challenges and trauma-induced compulsive “acting out” behaviors. Why my work is important: Trauma survivors in high-visibility or high-performance roles can often experience: 1) Internalized shame or trauma around body image, sexuality, and creative expression (especially in fields that reward objectification or performance) 2) Use of sex, fantasy, relationships or romantic fixation to cope with performance anxiety, rejection wounds, poor self worth or inner emptiness 3) Public over-functioning, while feeling emotionally dysregulated, lonely, or ashamed privately 4) Struggles with boundaries and people-pleasing behaviors, especially when their career depends on being liked, seen, or desired
Your first session with me will be warm and inviting. My therapy style is laid back and built on partnership rather than a standard professional/client dynamic. My role is to be a support and walk alongside you as you work to create new, healthier pathways and relationships for yourself. I like to laugh with my clients, wherever appropriate, to help my clients feel more comfortable during sessions, and I consistently work to normalize the stigmas that are often associated with mental health and trauma recovery. You will find that I am very friendly and encouraging and my ultimate goal is that you leave your sessions with me feeling empowered, supported and motivated towards the positive changes you would like to see for yourself.
I grew up as an "Army brat", so I have traveled and lived in many places. I am most grateful for these experiences, because they allow me the ability to easily connect with all kinds of people. This is a major part of my work as a Clinician. I strive to always be personable and building a strong, positive relationship with my clients is the most important part of my work. I am also a trauma survivor, so I am able to understand and relate to many things my clients have or are experiencing. I believe that this give me the ability to have deeper understanding and empathy for my clients, as I support them in navigating their own journey through trauma recovery . Lastly, I am a dancer, so creativity and body-based work like art, dance/body movement and somatic skill building are very important to my work as a trauma therapist. If appropriate and accepted by the client, I like to incorporate these creative interventions in my therapeutic approach.
The Epiphany Room was created to be a space for high achieving women and girls from marginalized communities, as well as individuals from the LGBTQIA+ community. I work with public facing, high achieving professionals, students, entrepreneurs and creatives who have experienced trauma and struggle with emotional and compulsive behavioral challenges that impact or threaten their careers and ability to maintain healthy relationships with themselves and others. As a high achieving and creative professional, who is also a survivor of sexual assaults, as well as physical and emotional abuse, I know firsthand that life can be challenging. Especially when you are navigating it after having survived a traumatic experience or during a major transition. Because of this, it can be very easy to internalize our struggles and deny being supported for the sake of meeting life’s demands. But it is the lack of support that can result in the development of many new challenges that can negatively impact our quality life and the quality of our relationships.
I have been trained and practicing EMDR in my practice for 5 years. I like to incorporate it with traditional talk therapy (CBT) and IFS (Parts Work). I also like to incorporate somatic interventions whenever appropriate.
