Marilyn Mercado
Everyone has a story and a unique voice. Let me help you find yours. I practice cultural competency, cultivating awareness of stagnant emotions through mindfulness, and exploring strengths and passions. I hope to fully support you during this moment in your life and help you meet your goals. I’m passionate about helping people become aware of the link between body and mind, as they work toward discovering their authentic selves. Sometimes, facilitating change can be overwhelming. I can help you through those times with evidenced-based therapies, including seeking safety and trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy. I have extensive experience working with clients of all ages, families, and groups on issues of addiction, blended families, divorce, trauma, and spirituality. I have also participated in immersion and liberation psychology programs in Mexico City and El Salvador. I’ve been using a video platform with my clients for many years. It helps make therapy more accessible, more convenient, and I’ve found it to be just as effective. Also, clients can practice with online tools during and after our sessions. I love animals, dance fitness, especially Zumba, all types of yoga including earning a Yoga Alliance accredited 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training. I love to offer guidance to improve overall mental well-being and quality of life.
First session
The first session would be getting to know each other and explore the goals, challenges, strengths and passions. I would offer hope, understanding, and to hold a safe space to express a range of emotions.
Strengths
My approach is working with diverse clients so that they may become more aware of the link between the mind and body as they work toward cultivating awareness of stagnant emotions and practices cultural responsiveness and competency. My approach includes mindfulness to reduce stress levels and to notice being present in the moment.
Ideal clients
Clients that are committed and willing to approach therapy for the first time in their life or wanting to return back to therapy for all types of life transitions and challenged including issues that impacts your life daily or in negative ways. Some issues may be: anxiety, addictions, attention deficits, career changes, depression, emotional barriers, divorce, grief, relationship, trauma betrayals, parenting, self-discovery and seeking guidance to improve quality of life, empowerment and overall mental well-being. During our work together, we can hold each other accountable by checking in with what is working in therapy and what is not working.
