(she/her)
Hello and welcome! I'm Allison, a Licensed Marriage Family Therapist with over 14 years experience providing therapy. I earned my Masters in Counseling from The University of San Francisco's Sacramento satellite campus in 2012. My approach to therapy begins with establishing a genuine connection with each client and how their challenges are impacting them. I establish this by providing a warm, open, and authentic environment. I enjoy working with people facing a variety of challenges. This includes those experiencing anxiety, depression, those going through life stressors/transitions, and those feeling "stuck" in their lives.
In a first session, you can expect us to discuss what your therapy sessions will look like, me to seek to learn more about you and your history as a way of assessing what approaches, etc. may be helpful, and us to discuss any goals and questions, etc. that you may have about the therapy process overall.
As a therapist, I believe the biggest strengths I bring to my work are warmth, curiosity, humor, and a genuine sense of presence into my work. My clients often find me to be me perceptive and attuned, with an ability to reflect back both what’s being spoken and pointing out what may be quietly shaping or impacting their experience(s).
I enjoy working with individual clients who are struggling with anxious thoughts and behaviors, depressive thoughts and behaviors, navigating life's stressors, work/life balance, etc. I also enjoy working with clients who are interested in Cognitive Behavioral and Dialectical Behavior Approaches. I find it a privilege to be invited into a clients journey and to witness them working towards and achieving their goals.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
Clients often come to me expressing distress around feeling "stuck" in certain feeling states and/or patterns of thinking/behavior. I have used these skills in assisting clients in addressing negative/unhelpful thinking patterns, stress management, improving communication, and emption regulation.
Dialectical Behavior (DBT)
The core skill sets in DBT are useful in addressing number of client concerns/challenges. I have used these skills in assisting clients in coping with distress, Regulating their emotions, Addressing challenges in their interpersonal relationships, and setting goals.
Person-centered (Rogerian)
Although clients may come to me with similar concern/challenges, each client brings their own unique experiences with them. Person-centered therapy is all about acknowledging this and partnering with each client to find the best approach in working with them. This often means that I have adapted techniques from a specific treatment method (CBT for example) to best fit each client and their needs.
