Hello. My name is Ana and I am a bilingual Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (128445), in the beautiful state of California. I have been in the counseling and social work field for 25+ yrs. Simply stated, I was born to do therapy, it is a gift and an honor. I am a safe, trusting and caring person, that is able to connect with a diversity of people, especially those that struggle with feelings of inadequacy. I have worked with children, teens, elderly, foster care, gang members and most recently, death row inmates in prison. I have found through many of those experiences that emotional pain, feeling alone and having anxiety or depression, is common and universal. However, I also know that the desire to live a deeper, peaceful and meaningful life can also be a driving force. I too have done much of that internal work and reflection in my life. I have learned that it is OK to be just me, no longer fearing to live the life that I have earned and deserve. I would love the same for you.
The first session primarily consists of us getting to know each other better. I think the first session can always cause a little rattling of the nerves so I like to be as comfortable and natural as possible. My goal is to obtain a good history of when the challenges began, possibly back to one's childhood or recently, and how that is affecting the quality of relationships with self, others or occupationally. However, I am never in a hurry and encourage the patient to set the pace and take their time.
I think my greatest strength that I bring to my role as a therapist is my own life experience. We have all experienced set backs in life. I too have had my fair share of life trials. It is with that confident, serene wisdom and a pinch of common sense, that I approach my work. I am non-threatening, relatable and make others feel as if they are talking to an old friend. My approach is based in reality, seeking and accepting our truth and moving on to identifying solutions. I do enjoy deep conversations that provide the opportunity for reflection, observing patterns or themes and making connections.
I work well with anyone who is hurting inside. I have treated a long list of people of all ages, shapes and colors. I love all people and care very delicately for the trust they extend me as they share their life stories. I am a naturally humble, funny (amidst the tears) type of person who is always professional and respectful. There are times to laugh and times to cry but both are always a time for healing.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I like to work with individuals to think about their thinking (Metacognition). Its simple to do, observable and produces results! Once you're aware of the pattern, you get to make the decision to change it or leave it alone.
Culturally Sensitive Therapy
Our culture plays such an important role in how we are raised and grow up to perceive the world around us. I am first generation Latina, growing up in LA & Riverside County. My parents were immigrants to California and came to work hard chasing the American dream. I have the same story that so many California's share being that we are a border state. I am proud of my heritage. Yet, at the same time, I am aware of its great impact, strengths & limitations, on personality development, traditions, gender roles, family dynamics and more. I enjoy having deep conversations with others, about their childhood experiences, examining how their culture influenced who they became. I love all people, but have a special understanding of the diversity of California, especially for people of color, women, and the LGBT communities.
Reality Therapy
I am a very humble down to earth type of person. However, as a child, I was very shy and often felt inadequate asking for what I needed. As I grew up and entered the adult work world, I learned that assertive communication, quick and critical thinking were necessary to survive and thrive. I enjoy passing along these skills to others to find real solutions to everyday problems. Reality therapy is about problem identification and considering the options or choices. It can be that simple. But of most importance, reality therapy is about accepting the truth of the matter - any matter, as hard as it may be, its immensely beneficial and transformative.
Existential
I am an overthinker. I am an observer of others and of environments and am naturally intuitive. I have always been deep beyond my years and still remember pondering questions in my head as a kid that I had no business thinking about, such as - Why am I here? How did I get here? and What am I supposed to do next? Lol...So when I meet other people who also remember thinking they were different or did not fit in with peers as a kid, it is an automatic and kindred connection! I have now come to understand that who I am as a person affects the therapy and essence of my work. I think we are all here for a reason. I know that every day I wake I am living my purpose. And because of that knowledge, everything seems to fall into place. If you allow me the honor, I will support you in the understanding of self and the single fact that out of millions of possibilities, your existence today is no accident.

Sessions with Ana have become the thing I didn’t know I needed. She offers a listening ear, maintains a safe space, and sheds new perspectives on many things. She is authentic and warm - sharing examples and alternative approaches to life’s upsets. We have both seen growth in me since our sessions started.

I have enjoyed my journey with Ana so far and look forward to continuing care with her. Ana listens and takes note in a way that allows space for my ramblings but I can trust that we will circle back to the standout topics. She is gentle with new perspectives to consider, her authenticity feels safe and lacking judgement, and she has helped shift some of my self talk to be more empowering and liberating.

Ana is very open minded and is non-judgmental. She is a good listener and repeats back what you've said to make sure she understands what you've said. She gives examples of her own life experiences and is very relatable.
