Karin West

LMFT (she/her)10 years of experience

Hi and welcome. My name is Karin West, thank you for your interest in considering me as a provider with Grow Therapy. I am a Licensed Marriage and Family therapist in California. I am a warm down-to-earth therapist who provides a safe space to explore your concerns in a respectful non-judgmental atmosphere, in which you can feel comfortable to be yourself, to share what is bothering you, knowing that you will be listened to and respected.

First session

On the first session, I will ask you relevant information, gain an understanding of your concerns and what you want to address during sessions. I encourage you to you to ask me any questions and explore areas of interest that you might have. I am always open to hearing your questions and concerns. I know that starting therapy can be anxiety provoking, so congratulations to you for reaching out and making your life and mental health a priority.

Strengths

My approach is compassionate, strength based, and empowering, I believe therapy should be a collaborative experience in which we work together to develop goals for improved mental health and well-being by building insight, learn coping strategies and learning through education to move towards a better version of yourself. Together we will develop options and strategies to achieve personal growth. I use an integrative approach during sessions drawing from many theoretical methods including CBT, DBT, psychodynamic, motivational interviewing, trauma informed care and somatic techniques. I hold a certificate in Neuropsychotherapy which helps me provide my clients with valuable information on the brain body connection for increased understanding and skill building. I have helped clients by providing information and tools to reduce reactivity to stress and trauma, improve emotional regulation, lower anxiety and be more in control of your thoughts, feelings, and responses.

Treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help clients identify and understand the connection between their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Together, we explore unhelpful thinking patterns and cognitive distortions to challenge and reframe them into more balanced, helpful and realistic perspectives. I also incorporate practical strategies and skill-building exercises to support clients in making meaningful changes. My approach is collaborative, goal-oriented, and tailored to each client’s unique experiences and needs.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

I incorporate Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to help clients build skills in emotional regulation, distress tolerance, interpersonal effectiveness, and mindfulness. In our work together, I support clients in finding a balance between acceptance and change, helping them navigate intense emotions while also moving toward their goals. I use practical, skills-based interventions and real-life applications to empower clients to respond more effectively to challenging situations. My approach is collaborative, compassionate, and focused on helping clients create a life that feels more stable and meaningful.

Compassion-Focused

I incorporate Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT) to help clients develop a kinder, more supportive relationship with themselves. In our work, we explore patterns of self-criticism and shame, and I guide clients in cultivating self-compassion as a way to promote healing and emotional resilience. I use practices such as compassionate imagery, soothing rhythm breathing, and reframing exercises to help clients feel safer and more grounded. My approach is gentle, collaborative, and focused on fostering a sense of inner warmth, acceptance, and emotional balance.

Mind-body approach

integrate a mind-body approach in my therapy practice to help clients understand how their thoughts, emotions, and physical sensations are deeply interconnected. I guide clients in developing greater awareness of how stress and emotional experiences show up in the body, and we use techniques such as grounding, breathwork, and relaxation to support regulation and healing. By incorporating both cognitive and somatic strategies, I help clients build resilience, improve self-awareness, and feel more connected to themselves. My approach is holistic, collaborative, and tailored to each client’s needs.

Humanistic

I draw from humanistic theory to create a warm, nonjudgmental space where clients feel genuinely seen, heard, and valued. I emphasize empathy, authenticity, and unconditional positive regard, supporting clients in exploring their inner experiences and developing a stronger sense of self. In our work together, I focus on each client’s capacity for growth and self-direction, helping them connect with their values and move toward a more meaningful, fulfilling life. My approach is collaborative, compassionate, and grounded in respect for each client’s unique perspective.
