Danette Hurst
There are times in life when overwhelming challenges, anxiety, or heavy emotions from the past leave us feeling stuck and disconnected. When these burdens become too heavy, they can easily disrupt your daily routine, impact your work performance, and strain your closest relationships. I provide a compassionate opportunity to process these difficulties alongside a seasoned clinician who truly cares. With over 30 years of successful experience as a licensed clinician in the behavioral health field, I offer a deeply grounded, steady presence and a rich clinical toolkit to assist you in gaining self-awareness and developing practical, day-by-day coping strategies to reclaim your life. Life can feel heavy, but you do not have to carry it alone. Together, we can work through your challenges in a safe and supportive space.
First session
In our first session together, we will focus on building a strong, trusting foundation. Our meeting will be a compassionate and collaborative space dedicated to understanding your unique story, experiences, and current challenges. During our time, I will do a lot of active listening to fully understand what has brought you to therapy and what feels overwhelming right now. We will look at what has worked for you in the past, identify your personal strengths, and begin shaping your goals for our work together. Your personal goals will serve as our compass, ensuring every future session is deeply meaningful and aligned with your personal growth.
Strengths
You are always at the center of the work we do together. Growth happens when you feel completely safe and deeply heard. That is why my primary focus is building a strong, trusting relationship with you from day one, ensuring you feel secure and confident in the therapeutic process. To support your journey, I weave three core clinical strengths into our sessions: 1. Person-Centered Collaboration: I provide an empathetic, non-judgmental space focused entirely on your unique goals, lived experiences, and innate strengths. 2. Action-Oriented CBT: I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy as a structured, solution-focused tool to help you break negative thought loops and manage difficult emotions. 3. Mindfulness-Based Grounding: I integrate mindfulness practices to help you calm automatic stress responses, process intense feelings, and step back from repetitive thoughts.
Treatment methods
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
In my practice, I use CBT as a structured, solution focused approach to help you overcome negative patterns of thinking and behaving. Whether you are dealing with depression, anxiety or other emotional challenges, CBT equips you with the skills to better manage your thoughts and emotions. Each session is tailored to your specific goals, making the process personal and effective.
Person-centered (Rogerian)
My practice is rooted in person-centered care, prioritizing your unique identity and autonomy. I provide a secure, compassionate, and non-judgmental space where you can speak openly and feel fully heard, seen, and understood. By listening deeply and practicing genuine empathy, I strive to honor your specific worldview without any preconceived notions or assumptions. In our sessions, your voice guides our path—keeping your personal goals and inherent strengths at the absolute forefront of our collaborative work.
Mindfulness-Based Therapy
In my practice, I integrate mindfulness-based approaches to help clients become more aware of their emotional and physical experiences. Mindfulness-based approaches help by building present-moment awareness, reducing automatic emotional reactivity, and improving emotion regulation. By learning to observe thoughts and bodily sensations without judgment, my clients can break cycles of chronic stress, anxiety, and depression relapse. Mindfulness strategies can help you to process intense feelings without becoming overwhelmed . a
