New to Grow
I am Ryan Ross, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in California and Texas with over ten years of experience in mental health. Growing up in a military family, I moved frequently and lived in several communities early in life. I started college at Grambling State University in Louisiana and earned a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from California State University, Bakersfield. Working in correctional facilities showed me how trauma, grief, and unaddressed mental health struggles affect individuals and families. That experience inspired me to earn a master’s degree in Social Work so I could support people through their hardest moments. Over the past decade, I have provided care across community mental health settings, correctional facilities, and telemental health platforms. I work with adolescents, young adults, adults, and seniors.
During your initial session, we will focus on building rapport as we discuss the main concerns that brought you to therapy. We will talk about how these challenges affect your day-to-day life and work together to choose a treatment approach. We will also set practical goals to review as treatment progresses, decide on session frequency, and address any questions you may have.
Therapy works best as a steady, practical partnership. I adapt my clinical approach to fit your specific needs rather than following a fixed template. I draw on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Seeking Safety, Trauma-Focused Therapy, Anger Management, and Behavioral Modification. In sessions, I bring a calm, grounded, non-judgmental presence. Having worked with clients managing mild stress as well as severe psychiatric conditions, I remain comfortable with difficult conversations and complex emotional challenges. My focus is helping you regain stability, recognize your personal strengths, and learn practical coping skills you can use long after therapy ends.
My ideal client is someone dealing with anxiety, depression, grief, work stress, or major life changes who feels ready to examine their habits, develop practical coping strategies, and work toward stability. Therapy is a collaborative process. You are the expert on your own life, experiences, and goals. My role is to understand who you are while sharing practical tools and insights to help you improve your daily well-being.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy helps people understand how specific events, situations, and interactions shape automatic thoughts. These thoughts directly influence emotional reactions, physical sensations, and behaviors. Recognizing these thought patterns allows individuals to manage their reactions and handle difficult situations with greater control.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy focuses on increasing self-awareness and present-moment attention. It centers on four core skill areas: mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness. Clients learn practical tools to manage distress, balance strong emotions, and improve communication.
Solution-Focused Therapy is a short-term, goal-directed approach centered on practical problem-solving. Instead of examining past causes, it helps clients identify specific goals and construct realistic, step-by-step solutions.
Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy addresses post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and related psychological difficulties. Primary goals: Reduce PTSD symptoms Improve co-occurring mental health issues, such as depression, anxiety, and behavioral challenges Support daily adaptive functioning
