LCMHC, 3 years of experience
Hey. My name is John Jensen, but you can call me Jake. I received my masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Campbell University and am the owner of Woodhaven Counseling PLLC. I started counseling after retiring from playing football at Wingate University and strive to assist those moving through life transitions, manage anxiety, and build confidence in their identities.
First session is about getting clear: where you're at, where you're stuck, and what actually works. Whether you're dealing with burnout, transitions, emotional flatness, or loss of identity, we’ll cut through the noise and start rebuilding your foundation. No matter what hat you might be wearing at this point in life, we can remind you who you are and where you are trying to get to. I use a blend of cognitive-behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment, and personalized strategies to help you develop effective coping skills, build resilience, and rediscover purpose in your life.
I played college football. When the game ended, the real challenge began. Losing the structure, identity, and drive that came with being an athlete hit hard, and nobody was talking about it. I know what it's like to feel directionless, angry, or anxious trying to figure out the next chapter. I help men and high performers face identity shifts head-on, without softening who they are.
Life changes, whether they involve career shifts, relationship changes, or personal growth, can be tough and bring about feelings of stress and uncertainty. I’m here to help you navigate these transitions with clarity and confidence. Let's get straight to it.
I use ACT to identify core values. As we grow and our responsibilities and roles change, being able to reference back to who were are at our core can be great help when navigating lives changes.
You know you better than anyone. Keeping you as the focus and exploring your feelings and thoughts as you uniquely experience them can be more valuable to our treatment than any textbook or manual.
Our brains can come up with interesting solutions to try and protect us from distressful thoughts or actions. Being able to identify those thoughts and challenge them efficiently are some of the intended goals of utilizing CBT.
