I've been a practicing licensed clinician in Maryland for approximately 14 years, and in the mental health field for over 18. Most recently, I've been primarily working with firefighters and veterans, as well as their families. I would like to continue to provide services to first responders (police, firefighters, Paramedics/EMTs, ER staff, dispatch, and healthcare providers) and their families, as the stressors associated with the helping fields and emergency response affect not only the service providers but also those closest with them. I primarily believe in a client-responsive approach, and I pull from a variety of approaches in therapy including dialectical behavioral therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, feminist therapy, cognitive processing therapy, and others. I seek to provide evidenced based and evidence-informed interventions, and am constantly revising my approach with new information.

First session

I want my clients to feel supported and seen, regardless of age, lifestyle, or history. Treatment should recognize the various factors, internal and external, that affect one's sense of well-being and capability. I believe in ownership of our own flaws and strengths (which are sometimes the same thing!), seeking balance and insight every day.

Strengths

I'm able to provide a space in which you can feel heard. I am responsive and open to feedback, as I look to provide you with treatment in line with your needs and experiences. I love to learn, which means I am excited to share as many relevant and reliable resources with you as possible and to learn from your own experiences and wisdom.

Ideal clients

Fire Fighters (Professional and volunteer), EMTs/Paramedics, Healthcare workers, Police, Veterans, First Responder families

Treatment methods

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

Through the use of ACT principles, I work with clients to apply mindfulness strategies to make choices that better align with their personal values. I've been working on applying ACT in treatment for the past four years in various treatment settings.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

CBT is a highly effective and accessible strategy to help address unhelpful thought patterns. CBT has been part of my professional practice for over 15 years.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

For the past four years, I have worked with DBT principles in residential and outpatient settings. I believe that it provides a range of thoughtful resources to manage high emotion situations and to help individuals connect more effectively in their communities.

Feminist

Feminist therapy is my primary theoretical orientation in treatment, and has been part of my practice since the beginning. I apply the principles in feminist therapy as an acknowledgement that there are multiple system and cultural factors that affect a person's priorities, preferences, and actions. Treatment is focused on the individual as a product of their environment and the primary mover in improving the quality of their life and environment.
