I am Nelva, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) currently living and providing services in Northern Virginia. Raised in Washington, DC, where I completed my studies, including my Masters in Social Work at Howard University. I understand the importance and courage of seeking professional help when there’s such a stigma associated with mental health. I believe in utilizing evidence-based practices to help individuals cope with mental health challenges in a meaningful way.
I know that starting therapy can feel a little overwhelming and it’s normal and expected. Our first session is all about getting to know you and understanding what led you to schedule an appointment with me. My role is to support you and work with you towards goals that are important to you. Seeking help is a sign of strength, and scheduling an appointment is the first step toward positive change.
I seek focus on client’s needs and preferences while nurturing the therapeutic relationship and providing clinical services including motivational interviewing, humanistic and existential approach, psychodynamic, cognitive, and dialectical behavioral therapies. I use a collaborative approach to identify clients’ strengths and challenges to create a roadmap to live a healthier and more authentic life.
I am a native Spanish speaker, and conduct therapy sessions fluently in both English and Spanish. I strive to provide culturally responsive treatment to individuals from all walks of life and have supported many clients struggling with acculturation stress. I specialize in treatments for anxiety, depression, anger and stress management, relationship stressors, and life transitions. I employ an eclectic array of evidence-based treatment modalities and interventions to treat symptoms across the spectrum of mental health issues and life stressors. Throughout my career, I have facilitated psychoeducation and group psychotherapy as well as individual, family, and family therapy. Treating issues related to mood and psychiatric disorders. I acquired experience working with populations of all ages in academic, social service, and outpatient settings.
I provide a safe, supportive space where you can be heard and understood. My approach is collaborative and strength based, combing evidence-based techniques with empathy to help you achieve goals. I’m committed to tailoring care to your unique need and foster resilience and growth.

She is warm, empathetic, and so easy to talk to. I’ve never felt this understood before, she immediately got what I’m going through and made me feel safe and seen. She listens with kindness, and I can tell she genuinely cares. I feel lucky to have found her, and I truly believe she is a blessing in my life.
