I am Nelva, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) currently living and providing services in Northern Virginia. Raised in Washington, DC, where I completed my studies, including my Masters in Social Work at Howard University. I understand the importance and courage of seeking professional help when there’s such a stigma associated with mental health. I believe in utilizing evidence-based practices to help individuals cope with mental health challenges in a meaningful way.

I seek focus on client’s needs and preferences while nurturing the therapeutic relationship and providing clinical services including motivational interviewing, humanistic and existential approach, psychodynamic, cognitive, and dialectical behavioral therapies. I use a collaborative approach to identify clients’ strengths and challenges to create a roadmap to live a healthier and more authentic life.
I am a native Spanish speaker, and conduct therapy sessions fluently in both English and Spanish. I strive to provide culturally responsive treatment to individuals from all walks of life and have supported many clients struggling with acculturation stress. I specialize in treatments for anxiety, depression, anger and stress management, relationship stressors, and life transitions. I employ an eclectic array of evidence-based treatment modalities and interventions to treat symptoms across the spectrum of mental health issues and life stressors. Throughout my career, I have facilitated psychoeducation and group psychotherapy as well as individual, family, and family therapy. Treating issues related to mood and psychiatric disorders. I acquired experience working with populations of all ages in academic, social service, and outpatient settings.
