New to Grow
Hi! I am Jillian Shiner and a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 12 years of experience working in the mental health field. I believe therapy should feel like a space where you can show up as you are- without judgment. I specialize in working with individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, and life stressors. My approach is trauma-informed, strengths-based and tailored to each individual's needs. I often draw from CBT, solution focused therapy, and other evidence based practices to help clients build insight, develop skills, and create meaningful change. I strive to create a safe, supportive space where you feel heard, understood, and empowered. Starting therapy can feel overwhelming, but you don't have to navigate things alone- I am here to support you every step of the way. Whether you're feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or simply looking for support, my goal is to meet you where you are and work collaboratively towards your goals.
In our first session, we'll focus on getting to know each other and creating a space where you feel comfortable and supported. I'll ask some questions about what brought you to therapy, your current concerns, and what you're hoping to get out of our work together. There's no pressure to share everything right away- you're welcome to go at your own pace. This session is also an opportunity for you to ask questions and get a sense of whether working together feels like the right fit. We'll begin to identify your goals and discuss how I can best support you moving forward.
One of my greatest strengths is creating a space where clients feel comfortable being themselves. I focus on listening deeply and understanding each person's experience through a trauma-informed and strengths-based lens, focusing on building trust, fostering connection, and pacing the work in a way that feels comfortable. I prioritize meeting each person where they are and tailoring my approach to their individual needs, recognizing their resilience and moving towards meaningful change.
I work best with adolescents and adults in early and middle adulthood who may be struggling with anxiety, trauma, stress, or life transitions, as well as family members with loved ones who struggle with substance use disorders. Many of my clients come in feeling overwhelmed or unsure of how to manage their emotions, but are open to support and ready to make changes. I enjoy helping clients build confidence, learn practical coping strategies, and feel more in control of their thoughts and emotions. Together, we focus on creating realistic goals and making steady progress in a way that feels manageable and empowering.
Other specialties
I identify as
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I use CBT to help clients make sense of how their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are connected. Together, we explore patterns that may be keeping them stuck and work to shift those patterns in a more helpful direction. I focus on practical tools and strategies that clients can use in their everyday lives, empowering them to feel more in control, build confidence, and create meaningful change.
Solution Focused Brief Treatment
I use a solution-focused approach to help clients move toward the changes they want to see in their lives. Together, we focus on strengths, past successes, and what is already working, rather than staying stuck in the problem. I help clients set realistic goals and build confidence by taking small, manageable steps that lead to meaningful change.
Trauma Informed Care
I use Trauma Informed Care to help children, teens, and families work through difficult or traumatic experiences in a safe and supportive way. Together, we focus on building coping skills, understanding emotions, and processing experiences at a pace that feels manageable. I aim to help clients feel empowered, supported, and better equipped to move forward.
Strength-Based
I take a strengths-based approach in my work, which means I focus on what is going well and the strengths each person already has. Together, we build on those strengths to help clients feel more confident, capable, and empowered to navigate challenges and make positive changes in their lives.
Dialectical Behavior (DBT)
I use a DBT informed approach to help clients better manage intense emotions, cope with stress, and improve relationships. Together, we focus on building skills like mindfulness, handling difficult situations, and communicating more effectively. My goal is to help clients feel more in control, supported, and confident in navigating challenges.
