Carrie Little
I am a licensed clinical social worker specializing in developmental trauma and early childhood mental health, utilizing the Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics to inform my treatment. I work at a family systems level in order to support children in developing strategies for regulation and self-expression, while also working with caregivers to strengthen their attachment and understanding of their unique child. I also work with caregivers who want to understand how their own childhood histories impact their parenting and who want to break from dysfunctional inter-generational patterns.
First session
Our first session will focus on exploring your intentions for seeking therapeutic support and to discuss whether the services I provide are a good fit for what your treatment goals are.
Strengths
My therapeutic approach is trauma-focused and strengths-based. I believe in the healing power of play and have a knack for creative play-based strategies that support children in expressing what cannot always be accessed through words alone.
Ideal clients
I am best equipped to work with clients interested in attachment-focused work and those impacted by ruptures due to developmental trauma. I am particularly interested in working with pregnant individuals who are struggling to maintain sobriety during their pregnancy and in the post-partum period. I also have extensive experience with families with child welfare involvement, including those dealing with reunification and foster care.
Treatment methods
Play Therapy
Play therapy uses a range of tools and modalities to help children process and communicate their emotions in an accessible language - play. Play therapy can include art, movement, psychodrama, and utilize resources including sandplay, doll house, and puppets, among many others.
Sandplay
Sandplay supports the expression of feelings that may not be accessible verbally, which encourages both self-regulation and resolution of internal conflicts and distress.
Polyvagal Therapy
I utilize polyvagal therapy to support clients in recognizing their own nervous system expressions of regulation and dysregulation, as well as to provide somatic-based tools for expanding their window of tolerance.
Eclectic
I draw on treatment from an eclectic perspective in order to meet the unique needs of each individual client.
