Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

Your first session will be spent going over what therapy is, giving you informed consent, and getting to know you and orienting myself to what is going on in your life that brings you to therapy. You'll find in our future sessions that I believe a warm and authentic relationship between us is the foundation of a positive outcome in therapy and so that is likely how you will experience me; warm and authentic! Approachability and relatability are also important to me and so you find that our sessions are not only productive but they are comfortable. I tend you use a variety of counseling techniques and am inquisitive; you can expect that I will ask questions that integrate your thoughts, emotions, and core beliefs. And lastly, you are coming to me for perspective on YOUR life. That means you know your life experiences best; I am not here to tell you what to do. My goal is to partner alongside you to find practical solutions and insights that fit with who you are and your current life situation. For clients who have requested biblical counseling, you can expect that I will use a biblical perspective and actual scripture to help you achieve insight and/or change. That doesn't mean that I will preach at you or use the bible in a way that is shaming. It means that I will help you look to Jesus and the character of God as a way to relate to your experiences, strengthen your faith and ultimately impact your current situation for the better.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

I have a variety of experience and training and am able to work with clients experiencing a variety of stressors. My core belief is that adversity is the foundation of character building and so I see every life problem as an opportunity to identify who we are in the world and make meaning for our lives. I have training in biblical counseling and for clients that request it, will gladly implement a biblical perspective into our sessions and incorporate prayer. I am trained in EMDR and also have completed Gottman couples therapy Levels 1 and 2. I feel like you will find me to be warm, receptive, and authentic. I do not believe that because I am a therapist I am above anyone or have any answers that you don't also possess. I see my role as that of someone to come alongside you in a season of life and provide a safe place for you to be seen and feel heard. I hope that as a fellow Christian I can encourage you in your faith and point you back to the one who truly holds all of your emotions and see all of your stress and pain.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

Because of my extensive experience I am will versed in working with clients in the throws of addiction or victims of domestic violence. I think each crisis in our life is an opportunity to make changes. I love to work with clients who are open to integrating their faith and the Bible into sessions. Because therapy is really a process by which I come alongside you and support your growth and change, it's important for therapy to be most effective, clients show up internally motivated for change and a willingness to engage in conversations which are vulnerable and sometimes can cause discomfort.

My treatment methods

Christian Counseling

I believe that true change can only occur at the heart level and that change is completed by Jesus. I view myself as a vessel to allow the Holy Spirit to work but ultimately believe that we can look to the Word of God and our faith for healing.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

My approach is to help you first and foremost to gain insight around your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors and through therapy explore how they are uniquely interrelated in your life.

Gottman method

I have been trained in level 1 and 2 of Gottman therapy. The Gottman method for couple's therapy provides an excellent skills based approach for concrete relationship changes and insights.

EMDR

I have been trained in EMDR which is a highly effective evidenced based approach to treating trauma.

Group Therapy

I have years of training and experience in group therapy specifically used for the treatment of addiction.
