Hi, my name is Kati Hoover and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) based in Long Beach, California and working with clients statewide via telehealth. I received my degree from California State University, Long Beach. I have been a Social Worker for 20 years and an LCSW for 13 years. I enjoy working with adults and specialize in anxiety, stress, depression, LGBTQ+ issues, self esteem, and relationship issues.
Our first session together is for us to explore how you've been feeling recently, and me asking questions to better understand why you may be feeling that way. The first session is about us building trust and understanding what the best plan is moving forward. Every person is different, so I like to get to know someone instead of assuming the same approach will work for everyone.
I believe my greatest strength is that I work very hard to create an accepting, inclusive, non-judgmental environment where all my clients feel heard and respected. My communication style is open, direct, and supportive, which I believe makes my clients feel safe and understood.
I have found that my style and approach is a good fit for adults who may be dealing with the challenges of life transitions and social pressures. This often takes the form of anxiety, depression, stress, low self-esteem and issues in relationships. I work to help my clients navigate these transitions and to build skills to allow them to deal with life's challenges in a more positive way and feel better about themselves.
CBT helps you become aware of inaccurate or negative thinking so you can view challenging situations more clearly and respond to them in a more effective way.
Motivational Interviewing is a collaborative, goal-oriented style of communication with particular attention to change. It is designed to strengthen personal motivation for and commitment to a specific goal by exploring the person’s own reasons for wanting change, in an accepting and compassionate environment. Motivational Interviewing is a collaborative process: I am an expert in helping people change, but people are the experts of their own lives.
Solution-Focused Brief Therapy is a short-term, goal-focused approach, which incorporates positive psychology principles and practices, and which helps clients change by constructing solutions rather than focusing on problems. In the most basic sense, it is a hopeful, positive, emotion-eliciting, future-oriented treatment for formulating, motivating, achieving, and sustaining desired behavioral change.
Strength-based therapy focuses on your internal strengths and resourcefulness, rather than on your weaknesses, failures, and shortcomings. This focus sets up a positive mindset that helps you build on your best qualities, find your strengths, improve resilience, and change your worldview to one that is more positive.
Eclectic therapy is tailored to fit the exact needs of the individual seeking treatment. With most clients, I use all of the treatment methods listed to best meet the needs of the client.
