Hi, I’m Dr. Tameka! I’m a dual-licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) and Marriage & Family Therapist (LMFT) in Florida with over a decade of experience working with individuals, couples, and families. I specialize in helping clients navigate life stressors such as trauma, anxiety, depression, and relationship challenges. Many of the people I work with feel overwhelmed, stuck in unhealthy patterns, or pulled in multiple directions as they try to find balance and clarity. My therapeutic style is authentic, compassionate, and collaborative. I bring a systems-informed perspective to therapy helping clients explore how past experiences and family roles may be impacting their present struggles. Whether I’m supporting clients through crisis intervention, school-based concerns, or ongoing emotional challenges, I use evidence-based approaches including CBT, mindfulness, and trauma-informed care to promote insight, growth, and meaningful change. Therapy is a space to pause, reflect, and grow. I believe lasting change happens when we understand the "what" and the "why" behind our struggles. If you're ready to explore your patterns, reconnect with your strengths, and build more fulfilling relationships, I invite you to reach out. This is your space; I'm here to help you make the most of it.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

In our first session, clients can expect a warm, welcoming space where we begin building a strong therapeutic relationship. I’ll gather information about your current concerns, personal and family history, and what’s brought you to therapy. Together, we’ll clarify your goals and begin identifying patterns that may be impacting your well-being. Most importantly, you’ll be heard without judgment as we set the foundation for collaborative, meaningful work ahead. By gaining a deeper understanding of these patterns, we can begin to interrupt cycles that no longer serve you and create healthier ways of coping and relating.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

One of my greatest strengths as a provider is my ability to build authentic, trusting relationships that create a safe space for growth and healing. I bring a compassionate, systems-informed perspective that helps clients understand how their past and present experiences are connected. My clinical experience across various therapy settings allows me to adapt my approach to meet each client’s unique needs while helping them break unhelpful patterns and develop practical, lasting strategies for change.

My treatment methods

Family Therapy

I regularly apply systems theory in my work as a Marriage and Family Therapist by exploring how family roles, communication patterns, and intergenerational dynamics contribute to current challenges. In both school-based and crisis settings, I help individuals, couples and families identify unhelpful cycles and develop new ways of interacting that support healthier relationships and emotional well-being.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

In my work across in various settings, I use cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) to help clients identify and reframe negative thought patterns that impact their emotions and behaviors. I incorporate CBT techniques such as cognitive restructuring to support clients in developing healthier coping strategies and achieving treatment goals.

Motivational Interviewing

I use Motivational Interviewing (MI) to support clients who feel stuck or ambivalent about making changes in their lives. With a collaborative, nonjudgmental approach, I help clients explore their own reasons for change and build confidence in their ability to move forward. I’ve successfully used MI with teens, families, and adults in both crisis and outpatient settings to support goals around behavior change, emotional regulation, and engagement in therapy.

Solution Focused Brief Treatment

I use Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) to help clients identify their strengths, clarify their goals, and build on what’s already working. This approach is especially effective for children, teens, and families navigating school, relational, or life transitions. In my practice, I focus on highlighting small successes and fostering hope by helping clients envision and take steps toward their preferred future. SFBT aligns well with my work in both educational and crisis settings.
