Hi! I'm have been helping people create a life worth living for 30 years so I know a thing or two, but I don't put on a know-it-all professional facade. I cultivate a friendly, accepting atmosphere where clients feel free to discover their true selves and be that. Laughter be a part of the sessions, as seeing the humor in tough situations can be therapeutic.
In our first session together, I will listen to your story and the specific challenges you're facing. This will help me create a tailored plan for us to work through in follow-up sessions.
I don't have a one-size-fits-all approach to therapy. I know many strategies to offer my clients, but they know themselves. Together, we cooperate to discover new insights and coping skills that will fit their unique needs.
I have a soft spot for people who are quirky and unconventional, as I am. I welcome free spirits, artists, musicians, actors and those who yearn to express their authentic selves. Life can be more satisfying when one chases joy, not approval. I love to work with people who already have some insight into their issues and are ready to explore their emotions, thoughts and behaviors in greater depth and try new behaviors - that's why I do so well counseling fellow therapists. I encourage my clients to experience and understand their emotions, rather than regarding feelings as nasty symptoms that they want to get rid of.
I match the technique with the unique needs of my clients.
I can use storytelling and role playing techniques to elicit and heal painful emotions. I have extensive education in the use of psychodramatic methods. I taught a class called Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Comes Alive!: Experiential Techniques to Deepen CBT at Rutgers School of Social Work Office of Continuing Education
I help empower women to be able to create a life they want and resist the attempts of others to diminish or control or limit one's choices.
I have specialized in helping transgender people since 2008, and I am a member of WPATH.
I have studied IFS books and courses to look at how different parts of ourselves can be at war with each other. I have not earned official certification in IFS methods, and I do use this perspective.
