Hi There, I believe we heal and grow when our stories are heard and witnessed as unique testimony of our presence in the world. By sharing your story with me you will be able to grow - to treat your experiences and pain with respect and compassion - to navigate the challenges of your life. I will work together with you to achieve behavioral and relational change and arrive at our shared destination of full acceptance and compassion for yourself. My fundamental approach to therapy is person-centered and based on solution-focused methods. I endeavor to provide a safe place for you to feel seen and heard. Together we will explore and learn about our deepest inner worlds. We will examine your current ways of coping and explore how to transform them to better serve your needs here and now. I can help you uncover the impediments to effectively dealing with the challenges that life can bring and to consider alternative approaches that serve you better. On the whole, I see my role as being your guide in helping you identify the optimal and least disruptive path to your answers and your solutions. A guide is not just a fellow traveler – I will occasionally confront and disagree with you – but ultimately it is your path and your goal which I am privileged to witness and, at times, partake. On any fruitful journey, collaboration will be essential, and I am always joyful to begin our trek. I will place my trust in you as you do with me. I am particularly inspired to work with individuals who have experienced childhood or developmental trauma in such forms as emotional or physical neglect or abuse. I am also interested in working with couples and families to help them connect better with one another. In addition, I work with those who come to me because there has been a breach of trust or who may be lost in conflict. They may feel isolated and emotionally disconnected from others they deeply care about or they may miss how they used to be together. My ultimate goal is to help you gain the self-esteem and self-compassion necessary to nurture strong and healthy relationships with those you care about in your personal and work life. Significant relationships are subtly re-negotiated every day and I believe no relationship is more important than your relationship with yourself. I am a mother of two teens. I love to read great works of literature and listen to great works of music from different cultures. When the sun allows I bask, and when my weekend clears I explore the city of Austin that I love. Before becoming a therapist, I worked as a professor of English and a media liaison for the financial governing body of Korea. I hold a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of California Santa Cruz, a Master of Arts in English Education from Columbia University, and a Master of Counseling Psychology from the University of Texas at Austin. If you are thinking about engaging in therapy please reach out today. The connection between client and therapist should be a strong foundation for change to happen. It would be a privilege to take this next step with you toward reaching your hopes for a better you and a better tomorrow.
