Keaton Hettver
Hello! My name is Keaton. I'm happy you're exploring the possibility of therapy, as I truly believe it's one of the best investments you can make – an investment in yourself. We can often feel isolated and alone in the challenges we face. But we don't have to be. I strive to provide a warm, non-judgemental, empathetic listening ear, while keeping my sessions laid-back and relaxed. I focus on helping my clients build awareness and gain insight into their patterns and help equip them with the tools needed to create real lasting change – one step at a time.
First session
I start with just asking some questions – I want to get to know you! Your story, your strengths, your challenges, and your goals. The first session is also for you to get to know me and see if we'd be a good fit. My goal after the first session is for you to feel hopeful that real change is possible, your goals are attainable, and therapy is not as scary as it may seem.
Strengths
I believe the most important part of therapy is the therapeutic relationship - it is important to build rapport and trust. If you choose to work with me, you can expect a caring and authentic listener who will provide a safe space to explore your thoughts and feelings. Beyond that, I will also help you gain insight and learn tools to create change. You will be challenged - I'm never going to be one to just tell you what you want to hear - but growth comes through challenge and trying something different. While therapy is not always easy, you will always know that I am on your side - my goal is to help you achieve your goals.
Ideal clients
I primarily work with adults 18+, both individuals and couples, who may be experiencing a variety of issues. I specialize in helping clients work through anxiety, depression, anger management, grief, conflict resolution, addiction, relationship issues, life transitions, everyday stressors, and more. I especially enjoy working with men in helping them navigate relationship challenges, men's issues, finding purpose/meaning, and identifying, understanding, and navigating their feelings. For clients who are open to it, I am happy to incorporate their Christian faith into sessions as I believe this can play a significant role in their healing journey. If it sounds like I might be a good fit for you, please book a session. I'd love to learn more about your story and how I can help you.
Treatment methods
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
Our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are closely intertwined. I use cognitive behavioral therapy to help develop better awareness and understanding of thought patterns and how they impact our feelings and behaviors. Utilizing evidence-based CBT skills, I help clients take control of their thoughts and behaviors to create lasting change.
Psychodynamic
Everyone has a story. Whether we are aware of it or not, we carry our experiences with us, especially our early life experiences that helped shape us into who we are today - the good and the bad. These experiences shape our thought patterns, feelings, and reactions to the present. I use psychodynamic therapy to help clients gain insight into how early life experiences are perhaps showing up in their present experiences and work to empower clients to take hold of and change their own narratives. I am a firm believer that the future does not have to be like the past.
Christian Counseling
I believe faith plays a huge role in people's healing journey. For clients who are interested, I am happy to integrate their Christian faith into my therapy practice. If you would like to incorporate faith into sessions, please let me know. This is not a requirement to do therapy with me.
Couples Counseling
Relationships are extremely rewarding as well as extremely challenging. Whether its working through conflict resolution, communication skills, or other challenges that present themselves, I would love to help. I primarily use Gottman's approach in helping couples navigate the stressors that come within a relationship - focusing on building a strong foundation, building healthy communication, navigating hardships and conflict, and making life dreams come true.
Integrative
While the modalities listed are my specialty, I integrate a lot of different modalities into my practice. These include dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), motivational interviewing, solution-focused brief therapy, psychosomatic, existential, strengths-based, narrative, addiction counseling, and others. While my practice primarily focuses on CBT and psychodynamic approaches, I find elements of other modalities useful to incorporate in order to provide personalized, person-centered care to help you achieve your therapeutic goals.
