Jackie Surpin

LCSW (she/her)8 years of experience

I am a licensed clinical social worker specialising in the treatment of suicidal ideation, PTSD and mood disorders. My work integrates evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, and Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing to help clients build resilience and create meaningful change. My therapeutic approach is collaborative, compassionate, and goal oriented. I work with clients to identify patterns that contribute to emotional distress and help them develop practical skills to manage difficult thoughts, regulate emotions and improve interpersonal relationships.

First session

The first session is an opportunity for us to begin building a therapeutic relationship. I will ask questions about your background, current concerns, and what brought you to therapy. This helps me understand your experiences and how I can best support you. We will talk abut what you hope to gain from therapy. Some clients come in with clear goals, while others are still figuring things out. Both are completely normal. You are welcome to share at your own pace-there is no pressure to discuss anything you are not ready to talk about.

Strengths

One of my greatest strengths as a clinician is combining evidence-based therapies such as CBT and DBT with a compassionate, client-centred approach. I have experience supporting individuals dealing with trauma, mood disorders, and suicidal thoughts, helping them develop practical coping strategies and emotional regulation skills. My goal is to create a safe, nonjudgmental space where clients feel heard, understood, and empowered to make meaningful change.

Ideal clients

I am dedicated to working with individuals who may feel stuck, overwhelmed, or weighed down by past experiences. Many of my clients are navigating challenges related to trauma, depression, emotional distress, or thoughts of hopelessness. Together we create a safe and supportive space where clients can explore their experiences, process difficult emotions, and develop healthier coping strategies. I am here to help my clients build emotional regulation skills, strengthen resilience, and reconnect with their sense of purpose.

Treatment methods

EMDR

I am trained as an EMDR therapist and use it often in my practice to treat trauma and distressing memories. EMDR involves goal setting, gathering history, identifying a trauma memory, teaching grounding skills and establishing resources, and utilising bilateral stimulation to process the trauma memory. EMDR is a structured psychotherapy method that can help clients who suffer from PTSD, anxiety and other trauma related disorders.

Cognitive Behavior Therapy for Suicide Prevention (CBT-SP)

I have worked with adolescents and adults who suffer from a history of suicide attempts, suicidal ideation and self harm. I utilise this method often in my practice to reduce suicidal thoughts and behaviors. This method is based on Cognitive Behavioral therapy where I integrate relapse prevention and safety-planning strategies.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

I have worked with adolescents and adults who suffer from emotional dysregulation, mood instability, chronic suicidal behaviors, persistent depressive disorder and generalised anxiety disorder. I utilise this method in my practice to teach and increase mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotional regulation and interpersonal effectiveness.
