Hello, I’m Donna, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker dedicated to supporting individuals through life’s challenges. With a background in special education for over two decades I have experience working with diverse populations. I bring a compassionate and understanding approach to therapy. I specialize in helping adults navigate mental health concerns such as anxiety, depression, ADHD, grief, trauma, and substance use disorders. In our work together, I use evidence-based approaches like cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness, and dialectical behavior therapy, tailored to your unique needs and goals. My focus is on creating a safe, non-judgmental space where you feel heard and empowered to explore your strengths, overcome obstacles, and achieve meaningful growth. I’m here to walk alongside you on your journey toward healing, resilience, and a more fulfilling life.
In your first therapy session with me, you can expect a safe, supportive, and non-judgmental space where we'll focus on getting to know each other and discussing what brings you to therapy. I'll ask questions about your current challenges, background, and goals for therapy, while also explaining my approach and answering any questions you may have. This initial session is designed to help us determine if we are a good fit and to create a collaborative plan that addresses your unique needs, providing you with a clear sense of direction and peace of mind as we begin our work together.
With over 22 years as a special education high school English teacher, I bring a deep understanding of diverse life experiences and challenges to my therapy practice. I have worked extensively with individuals of all ages, including older adults, as well as individuals facing anxiety, depression, and grief. Additionally, my experience in adult intensive outpatient programs for substance use disorders has also given me valuable insight into supporting individuals on their journey to recovery. This unique blend of expertise makes me especially well-suited to support clients from a wide range of backgrounds. I am committed to providing compassionate, knowledgeable, and personalized care, helping each individual find healing, build resilience, and achieve personal growth.
I specialize in working with adults ages 18 and older who are navigating life transitions, relationship challenges, complex grief, trauma, depression, anxiety, and ADHD. My approach is tailored to support individuals facing these issues, helping them build resilience, find clarity, and develop effective coping strategies as they work toward personal growth and healing.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a collaborative, goal-oriented approach that helps you understand how your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are connected. In our sessions, we work together to identify unhelpful thinking patterns and behaviors that may be contributing to your difficulties. I’ll guide you in recognizing and challenging these patterns, and support you in developing practical skills and strategies to manage your thoughts and emotions more effectively.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a structured, skills-based approach that helps you manage intense emotions, cope with stress, and improve your relationships. In our work together, I’ll help you learn practical skills in four key areas: mindfulness (being present in the moment), distress tolerance (getting through difficult situations without making things worse), emotion regulation (managing intense feelings), and interpersonal effectiveness (communicating and setting boundaries more effectively). We balance acceptance of your current experience with making positive changes, so you can build a more fulfilling and stable life.
In person-centered (Rogerian) therapy, I focus on building a warm, accepting, and non-judgmental relationship with you, where you feel safe to explore your thoughts and feelings at your own pace. My role is to listen deeply and empathically, offering genuine understanding and unconditional positive regard, rather than directing the conversation or giving advice. This approach empowers you to trust your own experiences and make decisions that feel right for you, supporting your personal growth, self-awareness, and confidence. The goal is to create an environment where you can tap into your own strengths and resources to find solutions and move forward.
In psychodynamic therapy, I help you explore how your past experiences, relationships, and unconscious patterns may be influencing your present thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Together, we look at recurring themes and emotions in your life, helping you gain deeper self-understanding and insight. By bringing these patterns into awareness, you can begin to make meaningful changes, resolve inner conflicts, and develop healthier ways of relating to yourself and others.
