You know you want to click on my profile- it was the cat picture that lured you in, wasn't it? Lol. You guys, I am not like other therapists...I am a cool therapist. (A nod to Mean Girls) In all seriousness, my name is Lori Hinsdale, I have been a therapist for 18 years and I love my job . My goal is to make you feel heard, understood, and excited about your life again. I like to help people set goals and hit the ground running- so let's do this!

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

My goal is to get you comfortable talking to me. I want you to leave that first session feeling some weight off your shoulders, excited to work on your life, and completely safe with me as a therapist. I will never judge or shame you and you can talk to me about anything.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

1. Empathy- I will feel your pain 2. Goal setting- I like to make goals easy to keep up with a (at times) fun 3. Sense of humor- Therapy can be intense but I like to make people laugh too 4. Connection- I try and keep in touch between sessions and hope you feel supported

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

I have worked with every type of human being (and some cats, lol) and wouldn't shut the door to anyone. That being said, I love working with women, couples, and teens inspire me. If you are someone who has felt unseen or unheard or who has experienced loss or trauma, I am here to listen.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Imagine that every person is like a 5 layer cake- now imagine that cake turns out tasting horrible. If we want to fix the taste issue, we have to go through every layer, not just try to reforest it and hope for the best. This analogy describes CBT perfectly- our dysfunctional thoughts and behaviors come from a place that is usually layers deep inside of us and in order to "fix" what we don't like, we have to go through those layers and heal whatever pain or issue is causing the problem. Too often, we attempt to "refrost" our issues- changing something surface level, but it's never successful for long because we haven't really gotten to the problem.

Psychoeducation

Let’s get into your brain and look around for a minute. We will look at your genetics, life history and current stressors and figure out what’s causing you to struggle. I will provide you with information on your diagnosis, symptom management, treatment modalities and anything else you want to know. There are no wrong questions in therapy.

Compassion Focused

My main job as your therapist is to listen to you, understand you and help you show yourself love and compassion. You don’t have to go through this alone and you deserve to live a life you love.
