LMHC, 7 years of experience
New to Grow
Hi, I'm Liz. Some of the values that inspire my counseling practice are: you don't have to describe your trauma to heal from it, harm reduction saves lives, healthy bodies come in all shapes and sizes, and LGBTQ persons deserve safe spaces. I have experience in multiple areas of counseling, including crisis intervention, addictions, treatment in forensic populations, and persons experiencing complex trauma.
During sessions with me, you can expect flexibility, patience, and education on how to help manage your mental health concerns. I will work hard to find skills and resources that best fit your needs, providing you with direct and kind communication. I utilize EMDR therapy, DBT, and CBT in my regular practice.
One of my greatest strengths is utilizing a collaborative approach to therapy, allowing you to heal at your pace, because healing is not linear. I'm also open minded and work hard to be equitable and inclusive, helping to reduce stigma of mental illness and addiction.
I feel I am best able to serve adults (18+) who have survived physical, sexual, and emotional abuse. I also enjoy working with adults in significant adjustment periods of life, whether its a new job, moving, starting school, or navigating medical concerns. Overall, I feel I can work well with people from different backgrounds and walks of life.
EMDR therapy is wonderful for helping clients who feel stuck in recovering from trauma and anxious distress. This is especially true with people who feel they can't recognize or take in the positives in their life. I ultimately use EMDR to take away the heaviness of trauma so it doesn't overshadow all of the current, happy experiences you have now.
I use CBT as a foundation for most of the treatments I use. It's a great starter for people who are new to therapy or need brief intervention. Starting with recognition of general thoughts and beliefs as well as common cognitive distortions can provide significant insight.
I utilize DBT for people who tell me, "I need better coping skills." This works best for people who want something they can look at and actively apply. I also frequently utilize the emotional regulation section to help people who don't understand what emotions they are feeling in the moment.
