Welcome! I'm Amy, a Licensed Professional Counselor with a degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. It’s my belief that therapy is a mirror by which we get to see ourselves from a different perspective. My focus is creating a safe environment by which to create a trusted therapeutic relationship that can flourish. I use a personalized and eclectic approach with empathy, kindness and respect to all communities and am a proud ally to the LGBTQI, Poly, AAPI, and BIPOC and many other populations.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

During your first session you can expect to get to know my style as your therapist but more importantly to let me know your goals for therapy, as well sharing some relevant information on who you are! I go over family history as well as anything you feel comfortable disclosing about yourself you think might help me understand more about you and your needs. We will build a care plan together based off your needs and goals, so you are part of the trajectory of your own therapy as well. We will then schedule your next visit and say our goodbyes for now.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

As a provider, my greatest strengths are building relationships, listening for deep understanding, affirming and validating clients, being direct about challenges and empowering my client to propel change in their lives when possible. I am deeply committed to lifelong learning for my clients. I believe in planting seeds in therapy that bloom sometimes long after our relationship has ended.

My treatment methods

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

I've utilized DBT with clients because of its skill building approach, mindfulness practices and tangible tips for emotional regulation skills. It's a fantastic way to monitor your regulation and to create significant and lasting change. I am in the process of getting my certification in DBT currently as well.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

CBT is a highly structured and focused on specific goals, and its focus on feelings, thoughts and behaviors. It works on understanding core beliefs about ourselves that may be faulty and cognitive distortions we have about ourselves, others and at times the world.

Gestalt

Gestalt is utilized in my practice in creating a holistic approach for clients who are focused on the present and need more focus on self awareness and the mind body connection. Gestalt allows us to have difficult conversations with others without the need for them to be present, allowing a safe space to process emotions and gain catharsis.

Narrative

Narrative therapy is a powerful therapeutic approach that allows clients to rewrite their story, transform negative beliefs and take control to shape their future. Narrative is a strength based approach that focuses on separating ourselves from the problem. It is also a collaborative, culturally sensitive and inclusive approach clients find helpful.

Somatic

Somatic therapy is helpful for individual that have trauma, post traumatic stress disorder & complex post traumatic stress disorder. I use it in many areas of my practice when trauma is identified as it is the most trauma informed approach prior to utilizing other methods. There is a focus on mind-body connection, trauma stored in the body, regulation of the nervous system, reducing emotional distress, grounding and holistic healing.
