Your Mental Health Medic. Your Doctor of Hope. When life feels overwhelming, uncertain, or urgent—you don’t have to navigate it alone. I’m Dr. Kia Everett, known to many as Dr. K, your Mental Health Medic and Doctor of Hope, here to serve individuals, couples, and families with compassionate, results-driven care—when it matters most. With nearly 30 years of experience in mental health and human services, I bring a rare blend of clinical expertise, lived experience, faith-informed insight, and practical strategies to help you stabilize, heal, and move forward with confidence. I’ve walked alongside thousands of individuals and families through life’s most difficult seasons—and I believe there is always a way forward. Dr. K
In our first session together, here's what you can expect
Your first session is about you—your story, your needs, and creating a space where you feel seen, heard, and safe. From the moment we begin, my goal is to help you feel grounded and supported. There is no pressure to have everything figured out or to know exactly what to say. We will move at a pace that feels respectful and manageable for you. Here’s What You Can Expect 1. A Warm, Judgment-Free Conversation We’ll start by talking about what brought you to therapy. You can share as much or as little as you feel comfortable. This is not an interrogation—it’s a conversation designed to help me understand your experiences, concerns, and goals. 2. Understanding Your Current Challenges We’ll explore what you’re dealing with emotionally, mentally, and relationally. I’ll ask thoughtful questions to understand patterns, stressors, and what’s been weighing on you—both recently and over time. 3. Assessing Your Immediate Needs As your Mental Health Medic, I pay close attention to urgency, safety, and emotional stabilization. If something feels overwhelming or pressing, we address that first. Your well-being is the priority. 4. Clarifying Goals & Direction Together, we’ll identify what you want help with and what healing or progress would look like for you. Therapy is collaborative—you are not told what to do; we create a path forward together. 5. Initial Tools or Supportive Strategies Many clients leave the first session with practical tools—grounding techniques, coping strategies, or small shifts they can begin using right away to help reduce emotional distress.
The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions
I don’t believe in one-size-fits-all therapy. Every person has a story, and every story deserves intentional, personalized care. I am a trauma specialist. I believe everyone is a product of their past. Our lives are a mirror image of what happened to us as a result we live out loud the outward symptoms of our unhealed trauma. I’m a great listener and people always feel empowered when they leave my presence. My approach is: • Solution-Focused & Trauma-Informed • Grounded in Evidence-Based Practice • Rooted in Compassion, Dignity, and Hope • Designed for Real-Life Application—Not Just the Therapy Room Whether you’re facing anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, grief, trauma, life transitions, or emotional crisis, my role is to help you find your way, regain clarity, and reclaim your strength. When you work with me, you are my priority. I meet you with respect, honesty, and a commitment to your well-being. I will challenge you when needed, support you always, and walk with you as you move from survival to stability—and from stability to purpose. You don’t have to have it all together to start. You just have to be willing to take the next step. Hope is not just possible—it’s reachable. And I would be honored to walk that journey with you. Welcome. I’m Dr. K—and I’m here for you. I am a trauma specialist. I believe everyone is a product of their past. Our lives are a mirror image of what happened to us as a result we live out loud the outward symptoms of our unhealed trauma. I’m a great listener and people always feel empowered when they leave my presence.
The clients I'm best positioned to serve
My ideal client is someone who is strong, capable, and resilient, yet finds themselves in a season where life feels heavy, uncertain, or overwhelming. You may be the one others rely on—the caregiver, the leader, the fixer, the faithful one—yet privately you are exhausted, anxious, emotionally stretched, or carrying pain you’ve never fully had the space to process. You may be: • Feeling anxious, overwhelmed, or emotionally drained • Navigating relationship, marriage, or family challenges • Carrying unresolved trauma, grief, or loss • Experiencing a life transition that has shaken your sense of stability or identity • Struggling to balance faith, responsibility, and emotional wellness • Functioning on the outside, but hurting on the inside • At a point where you know something has to change—but you’re not sure where to start My ideal client values growth, honesty, and healing, even if they don’t have all the answers yet. You are open to reflection, willing to do the work, and ready to move from survival mode into a place of clarity, peace, and purpose. I work especially well with: • High-functioning individuals under chronic stress • Women, men, and couples seeking emotional balance and relational healing • Faith-centered individuals who want mental health care that respects their beliefs • Individuals in crisis or urgent emotional need who require immediate stabilization and direction • Those who are ready to break unhealthy patterns and build something healthier moving forward You don’t need to be “fixed.” You don’t need to have it all together. You just need a safe place, a skilled guide, and a willingness to begin. If you’re ready to feel grounded again—to heal, grow, and rediscover hope—you may be exactly who I’m here to serve.

Dr Kia is exactly what I need in a therapist. She is real. She is direct and she challenges me to see things in different ways. I always get something out of each and every session. She is a great listener and I can easily open up to her without feeling judged or criticized. I love that she gives me both practical and biblical advice. Highly recommend!
