Welcome! My name is Shabria Mayne, and I have over 10 years of experience as a professional counselor. I hold a Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Mercer University in Atlanta, GA. I am a Virginia licensed professional Counselor and a North Carolina Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor. My objective entails goals centered around developing the mental health and functional well-being of women, men, and teens of diverse cultural backgrounds.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

The first session is generally reserved for completing the Initial Assessment. This assessment functions as a comprehensive questionnaire through which we will examine your reasons for seeking therapy, family and social dynamics, career, and other pertinent aspects of your life. During this initial appointment, you will also have the opportunity to consider your therapeutic objectives and articulate your expectations for therapy. I encourage any inquiries you may have to facilitate your engagement in this process.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

My goal is to provide a safe and supportive space to allow for honest discussion about your concerns, struggles, and personal conflicts, hopes for your future, goals, and all other considerations pertaining to life.

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

I specialize in supporting diverse populations to include adolescent youth, young adults, women of all ages and those who identify with the LGBTQ community. I have a passion for supporting others as they navigate through the symptoms of various mental health disputes, improving self-esteem, and effectively managing stress. I understand that every individual is unique and comes with varying experiences. If you are seeking a safe environment where you may be challenged towards personal growth, I invite you to contact me for information on beginning services!

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is a concept that focuses on how thoughts influence our actions, thereby creating patterns of behavior—whether healthy or unhealthy—that shape the world we live in. I employ CBT in practice to assist individuals in understanding how their unique life experiences may have shaped their belief systems. It is up to each individual to determine whether this belief system propels their life forward or keeps them stagnant.

Culturally Sensitive Therapy

With professional training, lived experience as a woman of color, and learning from diverse perspectives, I offer culturally competent counseling to all. Cultural competency includes not just ethnic and racial diversity but also religious views, belief systems, and other unique traits.

Trauma-Focused CBT

TF-CBT combines trauma-informed care and cognitive behavioral therapy to help those affected by past trauma. This short-term, evidence-based therapy includes psychoeducation, relaxation techniques, emotion regulation, and cognitive coping skills. My goal is to provide a safe space for clients to process their experiences.
