New to Grow
Warm Welcome! I’m Dr. Nancy – Psychologist and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist Taking the first step toward therapy can feel difficult, and finding the right fit matters. I work with adolescents, adults, couples, and families who are experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, emotional dysregulation, and relationship challenges. My approach integrates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), attachment-based work, and trauma-informed care to help clients better understand their thoughts, emotions, and patterns in relationships. I focus on creating a supportive and nonjudgmental space where clients can explore their experiences, build coping skills, and develop more secure and meaningful connections. I have experience working with individuals, couples, and families, including those navigating complex relational dynamics. As a Certified Anger Management Specialist and Certified Breakthrough Parenting provider, I offer practical tools alongside deeper emotional work to support lasting change. My goal is to help clients feel more grounded, empowered, and capable of handling life’s challenges with clarity and confidence.
In our first session, we will review your intake and discuss what brought you to therapy so I can better understand your concerns, history, and goals. This initial consultation is a space for you to share at your own pace while I ask questions to gain a clearer picture of your needs. Together, we will begin identifying priorities and I will develop a personalized treatment plan tailored to support your goals and help you move forward in a meaningful and effective way.
What stands out about my therapeutic approach is my ability to integrate evidence-based methods like CBT with attachment-based and emotionally focused work, allowing me to address both immediate symptoms and deeper emotional patterns. I focus not only on helping clients manage distress, but also on understanding the root causes of their challenges, particularly within relationships and family systems. I provide a balance of insight and practical tools, helping clients build emotional awareness, improve communication, and develop healthier coping strategies. Clients often experience increased clarity, better emotional regulation, and stronger, more secure relationships as a result of our work together.
I am best positioned to serve adolescents, adults (ages 18–70), couples, and families who are navigating emotional distress, relational challenges, and life transitions. Many of my clients present with concerns such as anxiety, depression, anger dysregulation, low self-esteem, and difficulties with communication and interpersonal relationships. I work particularly well with clients who feel stuck, overwhelmed, or disconnected, either from themselves or from important relationships in their lives. This includes teenagers struggling with identity, emotional regulation, and family conflict, as well as adults and couples dealing with attachment-related issues, trust concerns, and unresolved relational patterns. My approach is well-suited for individuals who are open to self-exploration and motivated to better understand the connection between their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. I support clients in developing insight, building healthier coping strategies, and improving their ability to form secure, meaningful relationships. I also work effectively with family systems experiencing conflict, boundary issues, or communication breakdowns, helping each member feel heard while fostering healthier dynamics and emotional connection.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I have extensive experience utilizing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) in my clinical practice with children, adolescents, and adults. CBT is a structured, goal-oriented approach that focuses on the connection between thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. In my work, I use CBT to help clients identify maladaptive thought patterns, challenge cognitive distortions, and develop healthier, more adaptive ways of thinking and responding. I also integrate CBT with a client-centered and strengths-based approach, ensuring that clients feel heard, supported, and empowered throughout the process. I emphasize skill-building, including emotional regulation, problem-solving, and coping strategies, so clients can apply what they learn outside of sessions.
Psychoeducation
Additionally, I provide psychoeducation to normalize their experiences and help them understand how their thinking patterns influence their emotional well-being.
Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)
Attachment-based and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) are essential components of my clinical practice, as they allow me to address the deeper emotional and relational patterns that often underlie presenting concerns. While cognitive approaches such as CBT focus on thoughts and behaviors, attachment and emotionally focused frameworks help me understand how early relational experiences shape a client’s sense of safety, self-worth, and ability to connect with others. In my work, I use an attachment-based lens to assess how clients form and maintain relationships, regulate emotions, and respond to perceived abandonment, conflict, or closeness. This is especially important when working with children, adolescents, and families, where attachment dynamics significantly influence emotional development and behavior. I help clients identify their attachment patterns and explore how these patterns impact their current relationships and emotional responses. Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) allows me to guide clients in accessing, expressing, and reorganizing their core emotional experiences in a safe and supportive environment. I focus on helping clients move from reactive or defensive responses (such as anger, withdrawal, or avoidance) to more vulnerable and primary emotions, which fosters deeper connection and healing. In family and couple dynamics, this approach is particularly effective in reducing conflict and strengthening emotional bonds. In my practice, I often integrate attachment-based and EFT principles with CBT to provide a more comprehensive, holistic approach. While CBT offers practical tools for managing thoughts and behaviors, attachment and emotionally focused work address the root emotional needs and relational wounds. This integration allows me to support clients not only in symptom reduction but also in developing secure relationships, emotional resilience, and a stronger sense of self.
