Hello! My name is Matt and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) in Roanoke, VA. I received a Master's degree from the University of Kentucky in Family Studies with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy and have been practicing for 17 years in various settings including in-home, residential, and private practice both in person and virtually. I assist adults of all ages in various areas, often focusing on anxiety. Also, as a marriage and family therapist I offer a strong background in addressing relational concerns.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

In our first meeting, we will spend time assessing your symptoms, exploring your personal background for related factors, and identifying treatment goals and recommendations.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

I have a broad background in individual, family, and couples therapy working with various age groups in many environments. Given this, I prioritize understanding significant factors that can contribute to current issues. I also like to provide my clients with a lot of psychoeducation to understand their condition and related coping strategies.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

I love working with people experiencing anxiety. Whether this is due to a significant life transition or an ongoing, historical struggle with anxiety, I appreciate coming to understand and meeting clients where they are at in addressing this mental health journey.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I have been practicing with the use of CBT for 17 years, often identifying and exploring dysfunctional, inaccurate thoughts that we are prone to tell ourselves resulting in personal distress. Finding useful ways to challenge these thoughts can assist with healthy self-soothing and general decision-making. I appreciate being able to be an objective participant in this process to find creative, productive ways to push back against the negative thinking patterns that can have such a detriment on our behavior on a daily basis.
