Hello there! My name is Justin Altman, and I'm a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. My approach to therapy is simple; I'm here to provide non-judgmental and positive support to my clients while occasionally applying a little gentle pressure to encourage them to grow and ultimately thrive. While my primary area of focus is working with individuals in the LGBTQ+, Polyamory/Open relationship, and Kink/BDSM communities, throughout my career I have worked with individuals from all walks of life to help them overcome the barriers keeping them from achieving their goals.
During our first session, my primary aim is to get to know who you are and what led you to reach out for help. I'll also collect some basic demographic information and give you an opportunity to ask me any questions you have.
I employ a casual, conversational style of therapy that leaves room for lots of flexibility for covering whatever comes up in a session. I tend to follow my client's lead when it comes to approaching sensitive topics, preferring to walk alongside my clients to help them through their struggles rather than seeing myself as a leader or expert.
I approach all therapeutic interactions primarily from a humanistic mindset. I listen to understand, reflect feelings to help clients reach deeper within themselves to find clarity on their emotional state, and provide positive regard without conditions or judgment.
