My treatment methods

Motivational Interviewing

Training and Certification I've undergone extensive training in Motivational Interviewing (MI) techniques, including workshops and certification programs. I stay updated on the latest MI practices by attending conferences and seminars regularly. Application in Clinical Practice: Over the years, I've applied MI in various clinical settings, such as addiction treatment, mental health counseling, and chronic disease management. This approach has been particularly effective in helping clients struggling with substance abuse, depression, anxiety, and other mental health disorders. Use of Motivational Interviewing at Solid Foundation Psychiatry Initial Assessment When I first meet a client, I use MI techniques to understand their readiness for change. Building rapport and trust is crucial, so I actively listen and validate their feelings and experiences. Setting Collaborative Goals: I work with clients to set achievable and personalized goals based on their intrinsic motivations. By encouraging them to voice their goals and concerns, I ensure they are fully involved in the treatment planning process. Exploring Ambivalence: Helping clients explore and resolve their ambivalence about change is a key part of MI. I discuss the pros and cons of their current behaviors, using reflective listening and open-ended questions to elicit self-motivational statements from them. Enhancing Motivation: I strengthen clients’ motivation to change by highlighting discrepancies between their current behavior and their broader life goals and values. Encouraging them to talk about their reasons for change and the potential benefits helps in this process. Building Self-Efficacy: Supporting clients in building confidence in their ability to change is essential. We discuss past successes and strengths, providing positive reinforcement and acknowledging the effort and progress they’ve made. Tailoring Interventions: I adapt MI techniques to fit the unique needs of each client, recognizing that motivation and readiness for change vary from person to person. Integrating MI with other therapeutic approaches, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) or mindfulness practices, allows me to provide comprehensive care. Ongoing Support: I continuously support clients through the stages of change by maintaining a non-judgmental and empathetic stance. Regularly reviewing and adjusting treatment plans based on their progress and evolving needs is a critical part of this process. Using Motivational Interviewing at Solid Foundation Psychiatry allows me to empower clients to take an active role in their treatment journey, enhancing their motivation to achieve lasting positive changes in their mental health and overall well-being.
