It truly is nice to see you. I am Dr. Tinai James, a Licensed Clinical Psychologist and the founder and Clinical Director of Rooted & Relevant Psychological Services, a group therapy practice dedicated to providing compassionate and comprehensive mental health care to individuals across every season of life. Our approach is built on the RCB Framework™: Rooted, Culture-First, and Brave. We believe successful therapy takes place in a Brave Space where you don’t have to code-switch to be heard. Whether you are a student facing the "identity shift" of campus life or a parent seeking a therapist who understands your family’s cultural background, our goal is to provide clinical expertise that feels relevant to your real life. In our sessions, we combine PhD-level clinical science with practical, goal-oriented strategies. We will work together to tackle anxiety and social pressure while building the cultural confidence you need to thrive. Our practice is currently licensed to see clients in Georgia and California, in addition to 40+ states via PSYPACT, offering high-energy, modern care that honors exactly who you are. Let’s build your brave!

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

Our first session is all about building a Brave Space where you—or your child—can feel seen and heard without the pressure of code-switching. We start by "breaking the ice" and getting comfortable with the virtual environment. Think of this as a collaborative conversation rather than a stiff clinical interview. At R&R, we use this first session to understand your unique story, your cultural background, and the "heavy weight of expectation" you might be carrying. We will discuss your specific goals and how the RCB Framework™ (Rooted, Culture-First, Brave) can help those issues you are bringing in. By the end of our time together, you’ll have a clear sense of our roadmap and, most importantly, how it feels to have a therapist who speaks your language. We’ll wrap up with a "Pulse Check" to ensure we are a great fit and outline exactly how we’ll build your brave moving forward.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

What sets our group practice apart is the RCB Framework™: Rooted, Culture-First, and Brave. At R&R, we don’t just offer traditional talk therapy; We provide a specialized clinical experience designed for the modern high-achiever. Our methods are grounded in evidence-based science but delivered through a lens that honors your unique identity and lived experience. The "No Code-Switch" Guarantee: Clients often choose to work with R&R because we provide a space where you can drop the mask. Whether you are a college student navigating a PWI (Predominantly White Institution) or a single mother managing the "heavy weight of expectation," you don't have to translate your culture for us. Results-Driven Growth: We don’t just vent; we build. Our approach is high-energy and goal-oriented. You can expect to walk away with a "Brave Toolkit"—practical strategies to manage anxiety, set boundaries, and navigate identity shifts. The result is a version of you that is more rooted in your values and brave enough to show up authentically in every room you enter.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

We are best positioned to serve high-achieving individuals across the life span who are navigating the heavy weight of expectation and major life shifts. Our ideal clients are ready to ditch the code-switching for a Brave Space where they can tackle anxiety, social pressure, and identity development. Together, we build the practical tools and cultural confidence you need to thrive as your most authentic, rooted self.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

We help our clients to identify automatic negative thoughts and understand how those thoughts affect their feelings and how those feelings affect their actions, behaviors, and habits. We work together to reframe those thoughts and create healthier responses and habits.

EMDR

We utilize EMDR techniques to facilitate processing of distressing memories, trauma, and negative thoughts, and teach resourcing strategies such as container and safe space.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

We utilize DBT techniques for crisis intervention and for our clients who struggle with suicidal ideation and self-harm.

Brainspotting

We utilize Brainspotting for our clients who are able to identify their areas of growth, who are feeling stuck, and who find it difficult to feel their feelings.

Culturally Sensitive Therapy

Our framework is rooted in culture first. We take time to learn who our clients are and bring their unique experience, interests, and culture into the therapy techniques.
