I have been in the field of mental health for the last 15 years doing case management, intensive in-home therapy, substance use disorder counseling, family therapy, intensive outpatient and outpatient therapy. I am a graduate of Liberty University with a Master's in Professional Counseling and a bachelor's in psychology from Cheyney University of Pennsylvania. I enjoy working with adolescents and adults ranging in age from 14 years and up. I am aware of cultural, religious, and ethnic differences and take on an individualized approach tailored to fit the specific needs of the person in treatment.

I am aware of cultural, religious, and ethnic differences and take on an individualized approach tailored to fit the specific needs of the person in treatment.

I do what I do because I believe that humans are neither fundamentally good nor bad but the product of their experiences that have taught them something about the world, others and most importantly, themselves. I walk alongside individuals to foster an environment that safely allows for their exploration of self and how their core beliefs, behaviors and emotions influence their choices and relationships with others. I empower individuals to reach optimal versions of themselves. I have walked alongside others on journeys to healing from depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, domestic abuse, childhood trauma, sex trauma, drug and alcohol addiction, workplace-related trauma, low self-worth, self-hate, grief and through manufactured emotions such as guilt and shame.

First session

In the first session, I attempt to join with individuals in order to meet them where they are. This includes obtaining details from intake forms and more about their presenting problem leading to treatment. I also seek to explore what are their intentions for therapy to better conceptualize what should happen in treatment.

Strengths

I take on an eclectic approach to counseling accepting that people are complex and no one modality alone is sufficient. My background in intensive in home family therapy has exposed me to the dysfunction of home that we as individuals can be aware or unaware of how this influence our thinking and relationships with others. Our beliefs are powerful and humans find confirmatory information to support their thoughts both rational and irrational. Because of this I have a family systems approach as well as cognitive and behavior therapy approach to counseling.

Ideal clients

I work with depression, anxiety, mood disorders, addiction, life transitions, childhood trauma, family issues and dysfunction, and workplace trauma. Not currently taking new couples.

Treatment methods

Cognitive Processing (CPT)

Over 2 years of cognitive processing therapy experience. Typically completed within 12 sessions however this can vary depending on each individual stuck point and readiness level to further explore how experiences have shaped one's core beliefs, worldviews emotions and behaving.

Motivational Interviewing

I have practiced MI for over 8 years in the field of substance abuse and those coming to treatment looking for change and commitment to change.

Person-centered (Rogerian)

I find myself to be person or client centered as I look to my client for expertise in their lives and focal points for treatment. I have practiced person centered therapy before entering counseling in the field or intensive case management to help build trusting relationship with those that I walk alongside of.

Solution Focused Brief Treatment

I use solution focused therapy as a strength based approach to teach individuals their resiliency to problems throughout their lives by reflecting on strategies that have worked for them previously.

She really listened to my feelings and made me feel heard and validated while also being honest about what I need to work on and what mindset changes I need to make. I really appreciated that balance. She’s incredibly intelligent, humorous, and made me feel comfortable so quickly. Her social skills and ability to create a safe, welcoming environment really stood out to me. I genuinely felt understood and supported.

Therapy can be most challenging, and that is simply because you're bearing your heart with hopes that someone will hear your distress, your anxiety, or you need to be heard in general. With Mrs. Scarlet, this is done with ease. She allows me to be myself, she challenges my thoughts, my emotions, and my frame of reference often. This is great simply because often times I can be stuck in my own sense of understanding, explanation, or emotion. I would recommend her to anyone.
