Hello! I offer virtual appointments evenings and weekends. If you do not see an available evening time, please reach out to discuss options, and you are welcome to reach out for a free consultation. Visit www.trishhaak.com for more information. At times, life can leave us feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or in search of answers. I am dedicated to supporting adults as they navigate life's challenges and honor their true selves. Through a holistic, collaborative approach, I integrate evidence-based techniques to foster healing and growth. My practice covers a range of concerns, whether situational or ongoing, including anxiety, depression, OCD, trauma, grief, family distress, life transitions, substance abuse, and academic challenges. Additionally, I specialize in assisting college students, veterinary medical students and professionals, and animal owners.
During a first session, we review confidentiality and I invite you to share what is bringing you in, understanding this is not always clear! I will give you space to share and we will begin exploring some questions contributing to an ongoing assessment in our work together. A first session may take longer than the following sessions.
My greatest strengths are meeting you where you are in a non-judgmental space, exploring your strengths and needs, assisting you in gaining insights and practice new skills both in session and out.
Most recently I have specialized in serving college students and veterinary professionals. Certified in veterinary social work and animal hospice/palliative care (IAAHPC), I specialize in support for animal owners, allied animal professionals, and the veterinary medical community. It takes courage to be vulnerable and discover your inner potential within challenging circumstances. Telling your story benefits you & your relationships.
I use a variety of elements from many different treatment methods including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Positive Psychology, Worden's Grief Model, and evidence-based practices for trauma recovery. Most importantly, I embrace a strengths perspective that focuses on what you are experiencing in the many aspects of your life, internally and externally. As a Certified Veterinary Social Worker, I support veterinary/allied animal health professionals and animal owners. My areas of expertise include providing care for grief and bereavement, compassion fatigue and burnout, traumatic stress, conflict mediation, and the Link between human and animal violence.
I use a Rogerian style of therapy, also known as person-centered therapy. This approach focuses on creating a supportive and non-judgmental environment where clients feel truly heard and understood. By emphasizing empathy, unconditional positive regard, and genuineness, I help clients explore their own solutions and foster self-awareness. This method aligns perfectly with my collaborative and strengths-based style, empowering clients to honor their true north and navigate their personal challenges.
I incorporate Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), a mindful approach that helps clients stay focused on the present moment and accept their thoughts and feelings without judgment. ACT encourages clients to embrace their emotions and commit to actions that align with their values, promoting psychological flexibility and resilience. This approach empowers clients to move forward through difficult emotions, putting their energy into healing and living a meaningful life.
I help clients achieve a state of flow, where they become fully immersed and engaged in activities that bring them joy and fulfillment. By identifying and leveraging their strengths, I guide clients to find activities that naturally induce flow, enhancing their overall well-being and life satisfaction. Through this process, clients learn to focus on the present moment, experience heightened creativity and productivity, and build resilience against life’s challenges.
