I specialize in serving adults navigating life’s challenges, with a particular focus on college faculty, staff, students, veterinary & healthcare professionals, and those experiencing grief and loss related to both humans and companion animals. As a yoga teacher, I offer tools to regulate & build awareness of the mind-body connection, incorporating calming techniques into a therapeutic approach to promote healing and growth from cumulative stress and trauma. My style is collaborative and strengths-based, aimed at helping you process your story, discover & honor your true north, and build an evidence-based toolbox for everyday life.
During a first session, we we briefly review confidentiality and I invite you to share what is bringing you in, understanding this is not always clear! I want to give you space to share and I will begin exploring some questions for a biopsychosocial assessment that will be ongoing in our work together. A first session may take longer than the following sessions.
My greatest strengths are meeting you where you are in a non-judgmental space, exploring your strengths, and exploring your needs assisting you in gaining insights and practice new skills both in session and out.
I use a variety of elements from many different treatment methods including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Positive Psychology, Worden's Grief Model, and evidence-based practices for trauma recovery. Most importantly, I embrace a strengths perspective that focuses on what you are experiencing in the many aspects of your life, internally and externally.
In my practice, I use a Rogerian style of therapy, also known as person-centered therapy. This approach focuses on creating a supportive and non-judgmental environment where clients feel truly heard and understood. By emphasizing empathy, unconditional positive regard, and genuineness, I help clients explore their own solutions and foster self-awareness. This method aligns perfectly with my collaborative and strengths-based style, empowering clients to honor their true north and navigate their personal challenges. As a Certified Veterinary Social Worker, I support veterinary/allied animal health professionals and animal owners. My areas of expertise include providing care for grief and bereavement, compassion fatigue and burnout, traumatic stress, conflict mediation, and the Link between human and animal violence.
In my practice, I incorporate Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), a mindful approach that helps clients stay focused on the present moment and accept their thoughts and feelings without judgment. ACT encourages clients to embrace their emotions and commit to actions that align with their values, promoting psychological flexibility and resilience. This approach empowers clients to move forward through difficult emotions, putting their energy into healing and living a meaningful life.
In my psychotherapy practice, I help clients achieve a state of flow, where they become fully immersed and engaged in activities that bring them joy and fulfillment. By identifying and leveraging their strengths, I guide clients to find activities that naturally induce flow, enhancing their overall well-being and life satisfaction. Through this process, clients learn to focus on the present moment, experience heightened creativity and productivity, and build resilience against life’s challenges.
