Hi! I'm a licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) with a PhD in Psychology in Gender Studies. Until deciding to go into private practice I was the Statewide Mental Health Director for the Department of Correction in Delaware.I am fortunate to have a wealth of experience working with and overseeing a diverse population. In addition, I provide oversight for a nonprofit with a mission to prevent suicide and stop bullying. I help children and adults struggling with daily life changing challenges.
In our first session together, we will start with a brief introduction, then we will discuss what brings you to therapy. We will talk about specific challenges you are facing and set goals. This will help me tailer a treatment plan that we create together to meet your needs.
Sometimes age and experience makes a wealth of difference. I have worked in different settings and a diverse population from children to older adults. In addition to a wealth of first hand experience I am qualified by education, trainings and certifications to provide the correct modality to address the challenges you are presently facing. My job is to provide you with the tools you need, you decide what tools work for you.
I find it rewarding helping others find ways to conquer daily struggles wether it is a child who is being bullied, a couple struggling to build a strong relationship, a Veteran learning to adjust, or a parent, spouse, sister, brother who has lost a loved one. If you are eager to succeed or improve I can assist and provided you with the tools you need to reach your goals.
After several years of working with different forms of therapy I have found CBT helps clients understanding how their thought process influences their behavior. CBT challenges negative thoughts and helps override them with a positive thought process.
As a Registered Play Therapist for numerous years I have found that if you want to really get to know a child, play with them. Play Therapy allows children to express their emotions in a safe environment. Play therapy creates and environment where children can resolve psychological challenges to reduce childhood anxiety.
Grief Therapy can be challenging but also rewarding. For over twenty year I have been providing individual and group grief and loss sessions because no one should have to go through the grieving process alone.
As a certified hypnotherapist I have found that with some conditions, not all, the state of deep relaxation and focus can result in positive change. the state of deep relaxation can be helpful in treating conditions of psychological or emotional origin.
Mindfulness/Being in the moment, taking the time to be present, paying attention without judgement offers numerous benefits. Mindfulness can improve your mental and physical health, while increasing your overall happiness.
