New to Grow
Hi, I’m Lhia and I am a Social Worker, counselor, therapist, support person, guide and confidante. With 30 years of professional social work experience I know that resiliency and hope are possible. I believe that YOU can change YOUR world. Let's start this journey together. I strive to provide my clients with a safe haven to allow for their presence to settle and their existence to be validated. Here you are permitted and encouraged to discover your own strengths, learn your own truth, gain self confidence and worthiness, and believe in yourself! I support people who are feeling lost, struggling with strong emotions, are experiencing significant grief and pain and are READY for CHANGE. Together, we will tailor a treatment plan and journey that is unique to you, utilizing a strength based and client centered approach. Along the way we will utilize various therapeutic modalities that fit your goals of counseling. I specialize in working with teens, adults and seniors who are experiencing challenges with emotional identification and regulation, depression, anxiety, life transitions, grief, and other significant life transitions including end of life regardless of the age and stage of development. Adjustments to significant medical issues and addressing past trauma are additional specialties.
As a therapist, I am able to engage with you as an active listener, balanced with reflective listening skills to help you identify your experience. This approach may challenge you to examine your own behavioral patterns and perspectives, help you identify what you appreciate about yourself and what areas of growth are needed to continue to emotionally and mentally evolve. We will also explore the mind body connection utilizing psychoeducation and somatic practices to increase your integration of self.
I believe that the client is the expert on themselves. My role as a clinician, is to provide a safe and accepting space where the client can re-discover themselves as a whole person. We work on identifying personal strengths and values, patterns of relationships with self and others, allow for an array of emotional experiences and learn multiple tools to increase personal awareness of self in the present moment.
In mindfulness therapy we will assess what tools you currently possess to increase your sense of calm and begin to learn and practice new skills. Learning how to create a moment of Pause allows us to assess the situation and respond appropriately, acknowledging our feelings but not allowing them to overwhelm us.
CBT strategies will be utilized to help you identify and manage your personal thoughts, emotions and behaviors.
Overall, I use skills and techniques from various methods identified, taught and practiced through the years. Depending on your own treatment goals we will tailor sessions to match what you need in the moment while learning how our mind and body work together on a neurobiological level, where our your feelings and fears may reside within your body, how personal thoughts impact relationships, develop communication strategies to improve social interactions and identify and utilize personal values to help guide you in decision making while keeping you safe.
