Hi, I'm Marissa Guerrero. I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. More importantly, I am someone who can help guide you on your journey of healing and ignite change. I have over 15 years of experience in the field of mental health. I support individuals and families learn new skills that have been triggered by their traumatic life experiences. I am also equipped to support you in learning how to recognize, identify and manage your emotional responses to stressful circumstances.
In our first session, I will focus on understanding your unique experiences, challenges and goals. We'll work together to identify the areas you want to see change and develop a personalized plan.
I have provide individual, couples, and family therapy using evidence-based modalities including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Therapy, harm-reduction, and trauma-informed care. I work with diverse populations, including children, adolescents, adults, and families, addressing a wide range of client themes such as trauma, anxiety, depression, substance use, systemic oppression, family conflict, and juvenile justice involvement. I also provide clinical supervision to associate level interns and conduct individual, triadic and group supervision. Additionally, I bring academic expertise to my role as an Adjunct Professor at the University of San Francisco.
I whole-heartedly believe that our life experiences give us the opportunity to learn new tools to help become our better selves. I anchor my therapy sessions in a strength-based harm-reduction approach. As a person of color, I'm also passionate about helping others who may have been negatively impacted by systemic or cultural barriers. My goal is to help you explore underlying root causes to life stressors and uncover patterns that will help you learn new ways to navigate your day to day.
