Andrew Loy
I've been a therapist for 18 years — which means I've heard a lot, judged nothing, and found that the best sessions usually involve at least one good laugh. I work with adults, couples, families, and teens across Pennsylvania, all virtually. My background spans anxiety, depression, relationship struggles, men's mental health, grief, anger, and life transitions. I adapt my approach to what you actually need, not a one-size-fits-all method. Accepting you exactly as you are isn't just something I say — it's how every session starts.
First session
New clients can expect a listening ear, responses and guidance when needed, and an injection of my own personality and humor when necessary. I will actively participate in crafting your therapeutic and personal goals, and utilize my expertise to help you feel welcomed, accepted, and hopeful for the future.
Strengths
My approach is grounded in CBT and mindfulness, but I pull from solution-focused, interpersonal, and humanistic frameworks depending on what you're working through. I'm not here to just nod along — I actively engage, ask the questions that matter, and bring real input when it helps. I believe setbacks are part of the process, not failures. I work with you at whatever pace makes sense, and I'll tell you honestly when something isn't working so we can adjust. Therapy should feel like progress, not homework.
Ideal clients
My ideal client is simply someone who is looking for therapy for their own goals. If they are willing and ready to open up and work on themselves, I am willing to facilitate that process. A positive mindset isn't required, because together we can help get you to positivity. I'm a realist, and I want clients to be real with me, as I will be real with them. I tend to let my personality and humor shine through in my sessions, because that's how people really are.
Treatment methods
Interpersonal
Expect a real conversation — not a checklist of intake questions. I'll want to understand what's bringing you in and what you actually want out of therapy. You'll get a sense of my style quickly: direct, warm, and occasionally funny. By the end of the first session, we'll have a clear sense of direction and you'll know whether working together feels right. Most clients feel genuinely heard by the end of that first hour — that's the goal. No pressure, no performance. Just a starting point.
Couples Counseling
I love working with couples to help them learn to appreciate and understand each other. I focus on active listening, acknowledgement, feeling heard, and understanding. Through my approach, couples won't get back to "what we used to be", we will find ways to be the "best versions of us". Couples therapy is one of my most effective abilities!
Family Therapy
Families are complex and dynamic. I hold a special place in my heart for helping families navigate difficult situations. I operate family sessions similar to the way I handle couples, focusing on active listening, acknowledgement, feeling heard, and understanding.
Solution Focused Brief Treatment
I focus on Resolution Focused Brief Therapy, so instead of providing or finding solutions to problems, I help clients find RESOLUTION to them. That way, in the future, clients can expand their ability to solve problems in other areas, and resolve their concerns much more effectively than just solving them.
