Akeesha Washington
Welcome to SLAY Therapy, where today’s the day to SLAY: Start Loving All of You! I’m Akeesha M. Washington, a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Certified Advanced Alcohol & Drug Counselor (CAADC), National Certified Counselor (NCC) and your dedicated SLAY Therapist and Certified Slayer of Mental Health Stigmas. With over 15+ years of experience, I’ve made it my mission to offer inclusive, compassionate, and yes, a little bit fabulous therapy! I’ve worked in a wide range of settings, from schools to community mental health centers, and now I bring that diverse expertise into my private practice. Whether you’re an individual, couple, or family, I provide therapy that’s culturally competent, trauma-informed, and tailored to your unique journey, using approaches like CBT, EMDR, DBT, Solution Focused, and Racial Trauma Therapy.
What sets me apart is my commitment to providing therapy through a culturally and gender competent, queer-affirming, anti-racist, and anti-oppressive lens.
A proud Philadelphia native, I hold two graduate degrees from the University of Pennsylvania, an Executive MBA from Temple University’s Fox School of Business, and a bachelor's degree from Kutztown University. My practice is primarily focused on supporting BIPOC communities in navigating mental health, dismantling stigma, and improving access to quality care. However, I also welcome anyone seeking therapy through a culturally competent, anti-racist, queer-affirming, and inclusive lens. My approach is rooted in understanding the cultural, social, and racial dynamics that impact mental health. At SLAY Therapy, my goal is simple: to create a space where you feel empowered to embrace your whole self, no filters needed. Additionally, I thoughtfully use AI-supported tools to enhance the therapeutic process, such as creating personalized reflections, exercises, and resources that support our work together. AI never replaces clinical judgment, human connection, or your voice, and your comfort with these tools will always be respected. Today’s the day to SLAY: Start Loving All of You. Let’s slay together!
First session
At SLAY Therapy, your first session is all about getting to know you, the real you! We’ll dive into building a strong connection, where you can bring your unapologetic, full self to the table. It’s all about creating a safe, judgment-free space where you can be as real as you want to be. We'll focus on relationship building, making sure we vibe and that this therapeutic alliance is a good fit for both of us. It’s like the foundation of everything we’ll accomplish together. We’ll discuss what brought you here, what you’re looking to achieve through therapy, and how we can work together to reach those goals. This is your time to be seen, heard, and understood. No filters, no pretense, just you. By the end of our time together, you’ll walk away with a helpful tool to support you until our next session because growth starts here, and we’re all about giving you something tangible from day one! Let’s build something great together. Today’s the day to SLAY: Start Loving All of You!
Strengths
My greatest strengths as a provider come from a deep passion for this work and a genuine compassion for the individuals I support. I understand that life’s challenges are multi-layered, and I approach therapy with an empathetic awareness of how those daily experiences interact with mental health symptoms. Whether it’s stress from work, relationship dynamics, or navigating transitions, I believe in addressing the whole person, not just the symptoms. What sets me apart is my commitment to providing therapy through a culturally and gender competent, queer-affirming, anti-racist, and anti-oppressive lens. I strive to create a space where everyone can feel seen and valued, no matter their background or identity. My goal is to walk alongside you as we work through life’s challenges and help you thrive in a way that honors your full self.
Ideal clients
While my primary clientele at SLAY Therapy are BIPOC communities, I support anyone seeking therapy through a culturally competent, anti-racist, and inclusive lens. Today is the day to SLAY: Start Loving All of You. My ideal clients include millennials and Gen Z individuals who are navigating the complexities of adulthood. Whether it’s managing the pressures of work, school, relationships, or family dynamics, my clients often seek self-discovery and support as they face these layered challenges. I am also well-positioned to serve individuals in transition, whether they’re seeking new employment, changing careers, or stepping into leadership roles and needing guidance along the way. Additionally, SLAY Therapy offers support to couples and families who want to strengthen their relationships, maintain healthy communication, and foster emotional connection. I recognize that everyone may experience mental health challenges, and I am here to provide the compassionate, culturally responsive care needed to overcome them.
