I am Remi. I have been working with individuals and families for over 10 years. I am a first-generation immigrant and I am passionate about family and cultures that we are actively creating. I can collaborate with other healthcare professionals, integrate complementary therapies, or address systemic factors that impact clients' well-being. I have a diverse background and an open mind.
During our first session, we go over background information and discuss the relevant history leading up to apportionment. We will clarify what you feel are the issues and discuss what some preliminary goals for treatment may be. This initial session is also a chance for clients to ask questions, express any hesitations or concerns, and maybe start developing rapport together.
I try to connect authentically, tailor treatment to individual needs, and empower clients to take control of their lives to help make a meaningful and lasting impact on their well-being is my strength as a provider. Encouraging clients to identify their strengths, values, and preferences empowers them to take an active role in their healing journey. My holistic/Humanistic approach means I consider the clients' physical, emotional, social, and spiritual parts in the assessment and treatment process. Addressing the interconnectedness I can provide more integrated care that acknowledges the complexity of our experience.
If you are feeling chronically confused, foggy, fearful, critical, bored, numb, disconnected, or have low self-esteem I want to work with you in discovering what will be your path out of misery. If you are eager to learn and grow into a reliable and complete version of yourself, I want to provide you with all the information I know. If you are in difficult and vicious relationships, I want to provide tools for effective communication.
I teach DBT its grounded in the concept of dialectics, which emphasizes finding a balance between acceptance and change. It combines cognitive-behavioral techniques with mindfulness practices to help individuals develop skills for managing emotions, improving interpersonal relationships, and coping with distressing situations. I focus on Cultural responsiveness in DBT involves recognizing and respecting the diverse backgrounds, values, and experiences of clients. I strive to create a culturally sensitive environment where clients feel understood and accepted. This may involve adapting DBT techniques to be more relevant and accessible to clients from different cultural backgrounds, incorporating cultural values and beliefs into therapy, and addressing systemic barriers to mental health care.
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a psychotherapy approach primarily used to treat trauma-related disorders, such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). It involves a structured protocol where clients recall distressing memories or experiences while simultaneously focusing on external stimuli, typically bilateral eye movements. During EMDR sessions, I encourage clients to explore their experiences, emotions, and beliefs in a safe and supportive environment. I want clients to feel empowered to guide the therapeutic process, expressing their preferences, concerns, and boundaries as they work through traumatic memories or distressing experiences. Therapists respect clients' autonomy by providing choices and flexibility in how EMDR is conducted, adapting the protocol to suit individual preferences and comfort levels
I consider the interconnectedness of the client's internal system and how it relates to their overall well-being. They help clients identify and understand the roles and purposes of their different parts, recognizing that each part serves a unique function and has its own perspective. I guide clients in building relationships with their parts, fostering self-compassion, curiosity, and acceptance. They help clients cultivate a deeper understanding of how their parts interact and influence their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors in different situations.
I help family members communicate effectively and identify patterns of interaction within the family system. They may use various techniques and interventions to promote understanding, empathy, and collaboration among family members. I help families explore their dynamics, roles, and communication styles, aiming to identify areas of strength and areas for improvement. I assist in developing strategies to address conflicts, improve relationships, and achieve common goals.
I help participants have the opportunity to share their experiences, thoughts, and feelings with others who may be facing similar challenges. The therapist facilitates discussions, provides guidance, and encourages active participation from all members. Through this process, members can gain insight into each other's perspectives, develop empathy, and learn new ways of interacting and relating to one another.
